My most accurate handgun by a wide margin is a Sig X5, a West German made older one which I paid dearly for and never regretted it. But, some of these, including mine have flaky extractors which may result in stovepipes. Gray Guns in Spray, OR offer the only real fix for these guns, and it's not as simple as swapping the extractor for a newer style.

In any event, after more than a years wait I got notice that Grays is making a run of extractors and have asked me to send mine in for the service, which I will be doing tomorrow.

I mention this here in the event others may have an interest in this same service. It's a rarefied problem at the ragged edge of Signess, but, you never know :)

It really was a lot more work than they anticipated when they set out to correct the issue. Besides having to design a new extractor, they have to machine the slide.

I'm almost surprised that they are still offering this modification

I was surprised myself, but they agreed back in July 2017 to let me know when they would be ready for my gun. Obviously I have to walk-back my more than a years wait comment, it just felt that long.

I thought about just selling or trading the gun but I really, really like it. If it's one minor nuisance could be corrected, it would be about as perfect a handgun as I would ever imagine owning. I've let exactly 3 people other than myself shoot it, one being my wife, they've all asked how much I want for it, lol. When I told my wife how much she said she will wait for me to croak, then she'll have it for free :)

Well, I'm in for $200 plus shipping, time will tell if I flushed the crapper or not. I'm a casual shooter so this is all about making a very accurate handgun more reliable.
