Hello everyone. I posted this question on the Sig forum, but received little response. The Sig cataloug states that the 239 has an "overall" width of 1.2 inches. Is this the slide, or the whole piece, say through the grips and decocking lever? I find it hard to believe that a Sig is wider than a Glock.

Thanks in advance

Glocks are pretty narrow. Sigs are wide because of the two levers running under the left grip panel. That hump in the grip is especially pronounced in the hi-cap models.

The 9mm Glocks slide is almost exactly 1" wide. The Glock grip, the widest part of a Glock is a smidgeon over 1 and 1/8" wide. Got the gun. Got the ruler.

I don't have a P239, but I have handled them, and they seemed pretty slim, but I did not like the way the slide was so much higher over the grip. It seemed top heavy, whereas the slide on the Glock sits nice and low in the hand.

The Glock catalog lists the G19 as 1.18 inches. SIG's lists the P239 as 1.2 inches. That little bit of difference is not worth mentioning.

The G19 is 6.85 inches long, 5.0 inches high, and 1.18 inches wide. It weighs 20.99 oz unloaded.

The P239 is 6.6 inches long, 5.1 inches high and 1.2 inches wide. It weighs 25.2 oz unloaded.

Mox nix. (Makes no difference).

But: G19 post ban mags hold 10 rounds, pre pan 15. Pre or Post, the P239 only holds 8. A difference. For the restriction of rounds, the P239 should be much slimmer.

By the way, the Kahr K9, T9, MK9, PM9's are all .9 inches wide.

Hey Napolean Wilson,

Cool THR name. I remember the character. The anti hero in the 1976 John Carpenter cult classic movie "Assault on Precinct 13". Great flick. Napolean, as I recall, was always out of luck, and out of time. The fellow who played that part, Darwin Josten, recently passed away.

Assault on Precinct 13 is one of the best Carpenter films out there. I figured the moniker "Snake Plissken" was used enough.

Another good seige movie is Dog Soliders. British, well made (For a low budget) and quite enjoyable.

I like a slim line 9, but want something DA for those times (perish the thought) of just slipping a piece into the waist band for a bit. I know Mexican carry is a bit taboo, but with a heavy trigger gun, I don't think there is much of a safety concern. Picked up a Kel Tec P11 today. Will order the belt clip next week. Seems interesting.

Thanks for the replies

Measuring my P239...

The slide is 1" at the widest point (the rails). It narrows a bit and then is rounded on top, unlike the Glock which is pretty much square.

The grip is only 1.2" counting the decock & slide stop levers. The rest of the grip is 1 1/8" (at least with Hogue grips). The front of the frame is about 7/8".

I think the Glock looks fatter than the SIG, even if it really isn't. Simple LxWxH dimensions don't say anything about the ergonomics of the design.

I like the SIG, but it is by no means a subcompact design. I have no problem concealing it (or a P220 for that matter) but if I wanted a really tiny 9mm I would get a Kahr MK9.
