I recently accquired a P229 .40/.357 sig in DA/SA.

First, let it be said, I am looking to spoil this sidearm and myself with a new trigger job. I am not content with the stiffness of the standard DA/SA (double action/single action), and I've tried the DAK (double action kellerman) trigger but I am discontent with the long reset on it.

I am aware of Sig's SRT (Short Reset Trigger), which is a DA/SA with 60% less pull on the SA reset. That is wonderful, but I don't have a big problem with the SA trigger, it's the stiff 10lb pull of the Double Action --the first shot --the most important shot.

Sig offers an "action enhancement package" which claims to both lighten and smooth the DA/SA pulls, but I do not know by how much. Does anyone know what poundage they are lightened to?

Also, can the SRT trigger also have the action enhancement package done to further lighten and smooth the pulls? :banghead:

In wanting to keep with the P229 and not wanting to "just get used to" the standard DA/SA or DAK, what do you suggest?

Scorp nails it. Bruce can do magic with Sigs, and his trigger jobs are stuff of legend on SigForums. He can bot lighten the first DA pull (to around 6#, IIRC) and shorten the reset. Not cheap, but if you're gonna stick with Sig and spoil yourself, that's really the way to go.

The whole DA/SA thing is what lead me to shoot Glocks, btw. If I had to contend with a DA first pull, I'd go nuts....

I had my 229 serviced by SIG USA in June of this year. They completed the AEP and SRT. Oh Goodness.... what a difference. It took them 10 days turn around. I don't have measurements for the DA but it is significantly lighter and smoother. The SA is crisp, lighter then before and the reset is sweet. It has a completely different trigger feel now.

I'm aiming for the stars here: Does it feel more consistent? I have a hard time justifying two trigger pulls in the same gun, especially when the first pull is the most important yet only used 1/10 times per practice.

How much was the SRT/EAP work total by the end?

Thanks again for the info, you guys are the best!

Here is he link to the SIG USA service packages:

Keith is the name of the guy who worked with me. He was very helpful and knew the products very well.

Every time I practice I'll run through at least two mags shooting DA only. I decock the hammer after the shot and work on my first shot placement and mechanics. Next I'll run through a few mags practicing double taps with first shot DA-trigger reset-SA second shot.

SIG is getting good at trigger work now, but realize that the SRT and AEP are an attempt to reach the benchmark already achieved by Bruce. For your money, I'd send your gun to grayguns and be happy--very happy.

Bruce will tell you himself that his "SRT" work is not as short as the factory SiG.

Can that gunsmith or any other do any magic on the DAK? It'd be perfect if the reset could be reduced...

The DAK is not conducive to a short reset other than the one it comes with.

As I said...for five bucks - get a #18 Wolff mainspring and tell us what you think. Spend the savings on ammo...and you'll thank me later...

I originally called SIG USA to order the parts for the SRT. They don't sell the parts and will not ship them. In order to get the SRT you have to have them install it. In retrospect I'm happy I did because they discounted the AEP service because it was an add on and turned around the pistol quickly. The trigger is completely different now for the better.
