I sent in my Florida & Utah CCW applications on the same day - 7/1/09. I received the Utah one a week or two ago and thought I would check on the Florida one today. I called, waited, waited, waited, and finally spoke to a customer service rep. She finds my permit in the system from, um, 1995 or so (when I used to live in Florida). She doesn't find my current application. I tell her I'm pretty sure the check has been cashed (but don't have the info in front of me at that moment). She tells me I'm not in the system for a new permit and that's pretty much the end of the conversation.

<sigh...> So I checked with the bank today and see that the check was cashed on 7/10/09.

So... what next? Any of you in the same situation? I guess I'm going to call back tomorrow and say "***?, I have a canceled check", although I guess we're talking resubmission. It irritates me that I'm going to have to wait another 90 days or so, especially when I've been reading about how local folks apply at a regional office and get it in 10 days. The extra $117 isn't going to kill me, but would be nice to have them figure out that I've already paid them and don't need to pay them again.

I'm not local enough to go do electronic prints and was just doing the Utah & Florida thing for redundancy, and really don't "need" both of them. But would like both.

Any pointers on how to escalate to the Florida CCW or management/customer service supervisors would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

danbrew

I would think with proof from your bank that the check was cashed by the Department of Agriculture and Licensing that they would acknowledge that you have paid the fee and allow you to send in your packet again without another payment. Also, I doubt it will take a full 90 days to get your permit. I sent my packet out in late July and received my permit in late September. I have recently heard from folks that got their permits in 4-6 weeks sending a packet Tallahassee. The employees seem to be very helpful and friendly so I would give them a call once you have the information from your bank. Good luck!

I couldn't tell if you are in Florida. If so, get a copy of your canceled check and go in person to the Department of Agriculture offices. (there are six, call first for details.) Apply in person and have your license in 6days.

I sent my app in June 22. FL cashed my check July 1. Still no permit. Maybe the lost a bunch of them.

Guess a phone call is in order.

Interesting - I dug up the canceled check and was all ready to have my chat with them about how to resubmit and I called them back today. After being on hold for about 25 minutes I spoke with a gal that said my application was pending and that "my application had been sent to 'verification' to verify the results of the fingerprint card check with the FBI". She said that it was sent to verification in August.

I feel a little better now.

I didn't think to ask if this was usual, but it's not surprising because I rarely get instant approvals for NICS checks and I know I've got a larger than usual FBI file (really! long story, though...).

So... sounds like I'm back in the system.

:D

You had me so nervous about lost applications that I called them today since I'm at 110 days as of today. She said another 30-45 days! Florida catching up on backlogged applications? Sounds like it's worse, not better.

Since I just sent my paperwork in back in September, I'm basically going to wait until after the New Year before I start bugging them...

I send my CCW applications in by certified mail. My very first non-resident application, to Florida btw, was lost. Used certified mail ever since.

Quit Whining

I sent in my application for a Texas CCW in JANUARY and just received it a couple of weeks ago. I waited over NINE (9) MONTHS for mine to clear. Yes, they charged my bank card promptly, too. The money was deducted from my bank account within days, but the application took f o r e v e r to process. Just hunker down and wait. They are swamped with requests due to 0bama mania. It took them 2 months to get me in their system and 9 months to approve it. Just wait and be patient. (argh)....

Have you ever wondered why the federal government can approve, delay or deny the purchase of a firearm in just a few minutes, yet a state government takes an extended period of time to determine whether one can legally carry a concealed weapon? I don't know if this is true in all states, but in Texas, they run your DL every time you renew. Takes seconds. Between the federal and state databases, they should be able to run your background check while you wait. You take the course, qualify with the handgun, turn in the paperwork and they do the check then and there. Or pre-qualify you before taking the course and spending the money. Admittedly, it does take the state a while to crank out the regular ID, but it shouldn't take longer than it does for a driver's license to get your CHL. They could issue a temporary permit on the spot, valid for 45 days, just like a driver's license. If something came up on review, they could cancel the permit, just as they do if you violate the law once you have the permit.

Instead, the law allows them 180 days to determine if the permit will be issued and also allows for more time if the Department of Public Safety needs it. Mind you, Texas is a "shall issue" state which means if there's no reason to deny the application, the license must be issued. If that's the case, why stretch out the process?

I know that for non resident permits they have to send your fingerprints to the FBI to be checked. I don't know how long that takes. I did get my VA non resident permit in 30 days, but I don't think VA is getting slammed like FL and UT are.

Waiting patiently.

Sent in application on 7/1/09.
Permit approved date 12/22/09.
Postmark date on envelop 12/24/09.
Arrived 12/28/09.
