Sight choices as we "age"?

I have tried red dot sight, reflex red dot, original sight, painted sights, and ghost ring sight. My groups are about the same size with all of them. Right now I am using the ghost ring with a large hole and a large round front sight. Maybe the worst of the lot for precision but I can see it pretty good. If I am trying to shoot a small group what I really need is a target that has enough contrast to see the bull but still allows me to see the front sight. I think maybe with the red dot sight I tend to pay less attention to trigger control and yank it when it wobbles onto the target.

I think that's how I started out using red dots years ago. I focused so much on the dot, that I'd have trouble keeping it on target. I have the same problem with magnified scopes on handguns.

Yet, at some point in my shooting experience, red dots and my eyes started to work together nicely. The key for me is both eyes open and focused on the target and let the red dot come into my eye to target alignment. If I don't focus on the red dot and let things work naturally, it feels like I'm guiding the bullet onto the target with my eyes. Sometimes I can even see the bullet's flight right before it strikes the target, if the lighting and my eyes are in sync.

Although, the above is for shooting handguns or carbines at closer range. I can also use a red dot for more precise shooting with a rifle, but that's when I do focus more on the dot than I would for a handgun or carbine.

I went from the stock Glock sights on my G32 to the F8 night sights and so far I like them. Easy to pick up with my distance glasses with bifocal. The big channel helps me center the site and big dot front site is easy to align.
