Sights on new Python

A main criticism of the new 2020 Python has been
its rear sight. I know I found it lacking.

According to Ken Hackathorn, the president of
Colt says he finds the Wilson Combat replacement
excellent.

That seems to be the consensus of those who have
purchased that aftermarket sight.

Gives hope, I think, that Colt will adapt a new rear sight
from either Wilson or a copy of it.

Colt should be ashamed of putting the current sight
on such an excellent effort as the new Python.

Probably the best approach.
Heffron will tighten the stock sight for $10 when other work is being done.
There are some shim and bend tricks on the www.

I have a 4 and 6 inch. Triggers are nice in both sa and da. Both shoot lights out with my loads. I replaced the sights with Wilson's. It's an upgrade imo. People say why spend that much on a pistol and have to replace the sights? Should colt have put those sights on there? No, but people upgrade their firearms all the time...

The original Pythons had decent Elliason sights. Colt could use
the Kensight, a copy of the Elliiason, on the new Python. Colt
already uses the Kensight on its 1911s.

I dont like Elliason sights. My blued Python wears a full blade Kensight.

Dont mind S&W factory adj revolver sight.

I replaced mine only because I did/do think the Wilson sight was an upgrade on an awesome pistol.

I MO, I think the factory sight was not a problem, even with the slight movement..would’ve bugged me to leave it that way.

I like red dots and had I known it’s easy to replace the sights with a solid red dot mount, wouldn’t have wasted the $160 on the Wilson sights that went into the case with the factory ones a month later anyway…the red dot made a. fantastic pistol even more outstanding! (At least to me…too each their own)

Did the same to my 6986+ 6”, and she’s really sweet too!

I put a gold bead front sight on my gun. Wilson had one that simply screws in so I got it when I bought my replacement rear site from Wilson. Love the new sights and the Python.

I and the exact same condition arise with my 2020 Python.

As has been pointed out, there is a tiny “jam” nut on top of the front sight that needs to be tightened down to prevent it from moving under recoil

The rear sight is not “click” adjustable for windage and the jam nut is what holds it in place as opposed to a detent in the sight mechanism.

Find a .050” Allen wrench, and once you’ve got the rear sight centered for the ammo your using “snug” it down.

Don’t over tighten that jam nut as it is so tiny it’ll surely strip.

Gratuitous pics of my 2020 Python

I read about the rear sight lock screw in the manual for my Python (reading the manual, that’s a novel concept)

Anyway, I’m not happy with having a special wrench to loosen the sight so it can be adjusted. I’ve not had any issues with the sight but then I only have put a couple hundred rounds through the Python.

I’ve ordered a Wilson sight to try. If I like it, I’ll buy Wilsons for my two Anacondas.

Harrison makes a replacement sight...

Appears they make a blade for the factory rear thats taller, and requires one of their taller fronts.

My preference would be for the Wilson as I like a flat faced rear sight. My shooter grade Python wears a Kensight of that type.
Also wears a flat face front sight.

Yup they detract a little from the classic look, but man they are easier to see.

Odd maybe, but I like S&W revolver regular adj sights.
"Liked" may be a better term. Now that I wear glasses. Haven't had a Smith w Adj sights since I got the specs.

The set screw is a pain yes but the main problem with the stock sights is they wobble in the base as noted earlier on.

I've never noticed any particular problem with the sights on my 2020 Python's (2), but then I'm just a duffer, who very rarely shoots at anything but a paper target no more than 10 yards away at an indoor range. I had an Allen wrench that fit already, the Lord only knows where that came from but it was here, so it went into my range bag. I've never actually touched the sights, just shoot them as they came from the box, and treat them more as if they were fixed.

I shoot my old Python at 25 and 50 yards.
Haven't tried it at 100, as .357 mag I think max for deer is 50.

I put the Wilson sight on my King Cobra Target. The notch is slightly bigger than the factory sight, and my old eyes need all the help they can get. For me, it was an upgrade and improvement.
So the Python sights fit the KC Target as well? I don't see where Wilson has them for KC Target? I would really like to change out my KC sights...

Yes it does, but the Target model only. No other Cobra/King Cobra, as I don't think those have adjustable rear sights.Says right in the description champ
Well hell I missed that. Down in the specifics under Dovetail it says Python and Anaconda only. Guess I should have just compared the two and been done with it.

I was in the same boat, I had only heard it fit. Had to read the fine print, so to speak. It's a fairly easy install too, and much better than the original in my opinion
