No, I don't have any information whether Colt has plans for a carbon steeled blued
Python based on the 2020 design.

But here's my prediction: If it happens, an immediate outcry will ensue that the
blueing doesn't compare to that of the 1960s models. Colt will be thoroughly
criticized for having tried.

And further, it will just show that the demise of Colt can't be far off. Or at the
least, the new blue gun will never be a collector's item.

Such is the internet.

Which may not be fair, not with CZ USA now running things.

Now, Royal Blue is a unique thing. It's a hugely labor-intensive process that is not frugal in its materials use. Neither much recommends it for modern gun production.

If there's something that surprises me, it's that no one is using "Black Chrome" on production firearms. (Or if they are, I've missed it.)

I don't think they have the in-house talent, time or interest to incur the cost to reproduce the quality of their original Royal Blue finish. I'm on the Colt forum pretty regularly, I know if they do decide to produce them, there's a lot there waiting for it to happen. I do prefer stainless steel myself, but I do highly appreciate the quality bluing of the old days. I was fortunate to be able to obtain this unfired Python after the owner passed away (my sister in laws father). He kept it stored in this Sherpa lined pistol pouch, in his bedroom dresser drawer for 40 years. This is hot humid Florida too. Now I've always believed in open air storage, in gun racks, in my safe.

I've been storing my guns that way for the last thirty something years with no problems. But, since this Python was stored in this sherpa lined pistol pouch for 40 years and it come out looking like brand new, I have decided to continue to store it in this same pouch, the same way in my gun safe. It's the only firearm I store in a pistol rug or case. Over the years I have always heard do not store guns in pistol pouches (rugs) or rifle cases, they collect moisture and will cause mold and rust issues. Apparently this one doesn't.

Things may be different with CZ in charge these days. I'm in if they do at a fair price and it is truly royal blue. I happen to be one that likes the latest snake guns. The rear sights were my only complaint and that was an easy fix...

Colt has already made a couple of New Pythons with a bright polish Black DLC coating that looks really nice.
These were "one offs" through the Colt Custom Shop.

In order to make a carbon steel Python would require a considerable effort and expense to convert from stainless to carbon steel.
If Colt offers a "blued" New Python it will probably be DLC.
You'll probably see DLC Pythons made for a distributor as an exclussive.
If they sell well, look for Colt to offer them as a production model.

I like "blued"guns, they just look right. But, I'm happy with the stainless models.

Having worked in the consumer goods industry (toilet paper) the customer is a fickle entity. Manufacturers try to please everyone with variable success. If they make a product that I'm interested in, I'm happy with what it is available.

If the fit and finish is good and the performance is good, who gives a flip what color it is.

can you do a 8 ply toilet paper? seriously

It can be done, you just have to hsve eight parent rolls to unwind on the winder. or create an 8 ply parent roll on a dedicated re-winder between the paper machine and the converting machine, aka toilet paper roll winder.

But, in the industry, it is not considered a necessity. You just pull off more 2 ply toilet paper.

Way off topic but thanks, that’s what I concluded, that 8 ply would last longer per roll, 2 sheets would do the job, were 2 ply you use more & buy more!

I think it would come down to customer base. I doubt very much if there is enough demand for it to become a standard production thing.

Of course they will criticize, 'they' criticize everything else. I'd prefer a bright blue but don't even care if it's matte blued, I'll buy a "black" Anaconda (no pun intended:p).

In my opinion, Royal Blue is one of the most overrated things ever devised. It's just a bright polish hot salt bluing. Yes, it takes skill to properly polish and Colt has had a good many years where they sucked at it. However, right now Colt is already doing it on the SAA. Colt is already doing all of it. They just don't do it on a double action.

This USFA 12/22 is just a few years old and is better polished and blued than any Colt of the last century.

Is there anything special about the blued parts of this SAA? Not really.

Better Blueing than my 1960’s Pimp Colt with Horses etching done by a 3rd grader with a rusty butter knife ?

Some of the reason that finishes aren’t the same from bygone ages is that the chemicals used in those processes became highly restricted.

That is a big reason S&Ws “blued” finish is much more black now. That and other cost cutting measures.

I keep hearing this… what chemical is that dangerous? we talking Uranium? I think the main reason is lack of training (polishers)
