One question I have is this. What order did you shoot the ammo in??
Reason I ask is that you stated that its was the first time you shot your 1911 since getting it back from the gunsmith. Did your accuracy improve the longer that you shot? If so, was it the certain ammo that was more accurate, or was it you that became more accurate?
1BLINDREF, As I recall, I shot in this order: Federal, Remington, Magtech, Federal, Remington, Magtech, Corbon, Magtech, Federal.

I shot the three best groups at the end, in that order: Magtech, Corbon, Federal; with the Magtech being the best, Federal 2nd best, and Corbon a very close 3rd. I'm sure that the early groups suffered a bit from A) getting accustomed to the pistol; and B) limp wristing a little bit. When I concentrated more on locking my wrists, the groups improved a lot, which would explain why the groups at the end were the best.

The reason I shot so much Federal is that I had purchased more Federals than the others. It goes to show just how prejudiced one can be without even realizing it. I had figured from the get go that the Federals would win, and so I bought more of them so I could get some practice time on them. The Magtechs were something I just happened to have on hand that I hadn't used yet. I don't even remember when or where I bought them. They're the ones in the blue and gold box. Same with the Corbons. I just happened to have some on hand, and I wasn't really expecting much because they gave me such a bad time the first time I took this pistol to the range. I bought the Remingtons just to have something else to try, but I only bought one box of them.

Hey there! I'm a newbie to the forum and saw a club I had to join.

Just got my first Sig last summer. P229 with two barrels, .40 and .357 Sig. It's a beaut and I got a sweet deal on it. It carries nicely as well, especially compared to my Smith 1076.

Anyway, thanks for starting the club and I hope to add to my Sig profile soon.

Welcome - glad to have you in the club. I think the P229 is one of the best all around Sigs. Its not too big to CCW comfortably, but its big enough to shoot very accurately. I have the same set up as you do but with a DAK trigger. I've only shot the .357sig two times because of the price of ammo.

I'd be in trouble if I had an FFL :( or at least even more broke
I've only seen the SCT models on the Sig forum. There are some vendors taking orders for them and I think they are starting to fill them. It looks to me like the only difference is the higher cap mags? :scrutiny: I saw a question to Paul Erhardt (Director of Sig Marketing) about being able to just buy the higher cap mags to which he said that for now only enough mags were being produced for the SCT guns. He said that he didn't know if they would be available to buy seperately at a later date. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

You guys are killing me with all this talk of P229s. I LOVE my P228, but I'd love to have the same feel in a platform made for .40 S&W. I'm already on the hook for another gun, and M&P .40 S&W. A Walther is in the bull pen. How does one justify yet another gun?

Scorp-
1BR: You can bet Sig will sell them once the sales of the SCT guns slows down.
Ya think  ;)
I'll bet they'll be on sale by Christmas :D
Don't shoot a P229 .40S&W. If you do, I bet you'll buy one within a month - probably sooner. They are the perfect platform - weight and size for the .40S&W. I love my P228 for 9mm and my P229 for .40S&W. The best part is that holsters are interchangable if you get a non-railed P229.
How does one justify yet another gun?
If you want it and can afford it - GET IT, you deserve it. You work hard so you owe it to yourself, besides, you only live once. Look at it this way, you can buy it for yourself as a birthday present, even if its not your birthday, sooner or later it will be.
Hope this helps :D
The other reason you need a P229 .40S&W is to fill the size gap between your P239 .40 and your reverse TT P226 .40

first off, let me say i love sigs...not quite sure what it is but there is something about them...actually a lot of things about them!

i was very close to picking up the 229 for my carry weapon of choice but to me the grip just feels to fat. given that it's compact with a high capacity is one thing but fit is another and i'm a big guy too, 6'3" 240 and lean. my decision was a 220 carry elite...love the wood grips and the beaver tail. moreover, love the fit in my hand. shooters need to go with what feels good and what they can shoot comfortably and consistently.

on that comfort note, i'm not a big fan of the .40 caliber even though i've tried and tried to be. i've shot 400 rounds of .45 in the matter of a couple hours and didn't notice a thing but after shooting a box of .40 and i felt like i just open-hand slapped the wall 50 times. 9's are great at the range and you can't beat the price for ammo. .45 is just getting more and more expensive but that is the price you pay, no pun intended.

I just got my p220 Super Match today and it's sweet. I got it from Ted at TNG Hardware. I higly recommend him as this is the second I have gotten from him and I can say he has great, fast service and great prices. He will also give a discount to the "THR Sig club" members if you mention it (as he posted earlier in this thread). His email is [email protected] and I don't know him personally, just a happy customer.

Back to the Super Matc, I will get pictures posted later on.

Thanks chingon! Enjoy that Super match!

Here's a little something for the Sig club. Not even on Sigs site yet:
I got 2 in today that I've had on order for months (one sold in just 61 minutes)

The new Platinum Elite series:

plat2.jpg
(the grips come close to matching the bead blasted stainless parts of the slide, the pic is just kind of crappy-I need to ask Oleg for some photography pointers)

Bead blasted Elite slide with Ground side flats (Equinox style)
“Platinum” engraving on right hand side
“Custom Shop” engraving left hand side
SRT Action type
Combat adjustable SIGLITE sights
Machined Aluminum grips installed

The grips feel fantastic. I'd guess they're not far off the offerings from Hogue, and I may be buying some soon. I get a real tight purchase on them, much better than the factory polymer grips.

Enjoy!
-Ted

Here are a couple of pic's, it's just a regular super match with the stock grips since the wood custom grips are behind right now. Sig is supposed to send them later. The sao is real sweet, now I wish I had gotten sao on the elite carry I have.

That thing is sweet! I'm not sure about the look of the grips though. Is the slide and barrel longer then the stock P226? How much $$ are they going for?

chingon-
Thanks for the picture. Thats a beautifull gun. I love that long slide and the TT finish. I like the black grips on her, but the wood ones are very classy.

Samuraigg-
Its nice to see a "classic" with all the new model pictures. What kind off take down lever is that?? I've never seen one of those.

I have three Sigs: A P220ST, a P229R DAK .40 and a P239 DAK 9mm. The P239 and P229R are my carry Sigs and the P220ST is obviously my pride and joy range Sig.:D

1BLINDREF, Am I in the club?

Absolutely you're in. Very nice collection. :D
My two carry Sigs are also a P239 9mm DAK (SAS) and a P229 .40S&W DAK (non-railed). I bought a set of the wood SAS grips for my P229. I like the Hogues for my range guns, but not for CCW. They always seem to stick to my shirt. I've also got a P220ST with Hogue finger groove grips. It's the sweetest shooting range gun that I have. Thanks for posting the picture!

Welcome! Nice classic Sig threesome you've got there! I love the look of a Sig with some honest wear and character marks. How's that P6 shoot? Does it have any problems feeding hollow point ammo?

1BLINDREF - what bullet weight do your 239 sights seem to be calibrated for? 124? How does +P affect your POI? Mine's ordered. They told me 30-60 days. *fingers crossed* :)

Jimmie-
I carry Federal Hydra Shock 115gr in my P239. I've tried heavier 124 and 147s but like the 115s best. I don't know that there is really that great of a difference in accuracy at 7 to 10 yards (self defence distance) between the different weights. Try a few different bullets and see what you like and what you think. Hope you get your P239 soon.

Finally got a P225

I've been looking for a nice P225 for awhile and I found one at a gun show this past weekend. I went looking for some RRA ARs to hold and fondle, and I came across a nice "JE" code Tysons Corner P225. It has very little holster wear and hardly any internal wear. The barrel has less smilies on it then most of my newer Sigs.
The best part is that I got it out the door for less then a P6!

Awesome find! I keep scouring my local gun shows looking for an affordable P225. And as soon as I find one, it's going to get refinished just like this one (from Ken Lunde's Pistol Wallpapers page):

That P225 just makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I look at it. Maybe get a carry job by GGI too. Oooh yea. :)

Thanks, REF!
The P6 shoots just fine, but I have only fired it with ball ammo for now. Will have to see how it does with HP's, there isn't anything a Dremel can't fix :D

1BLINDREF, I saw your Sig 220 family pics on page 25, very, very nice! The West German P220 with the complete nickel control package is awesome!
