FullEffect: are those black marks on the frame due to oil, or wear? New and CPO P220 STs are beautiful pieces but if they all end up with permanent marks on the frame, it would be a real shame! :( I just can't tell from your pic whether those marks will wipe off or not...

A Wolff hammer spring will lighten the DA pull of your P229ST. I have an 18lb hammer spring in my P229 DAK. The difference is very noticable. If you replace the factory hammer spring, make sure you put at least 200 to 300 rounds through your ST before you depend on it for concealed carry or home defence to make sure you don't have any light primer strikes / failures to fire ...... which might be a good way to sell your wife on a second gun.

Tell her you need a second gun while you are testing the reliability of your only gun. :D

or do what AK103 suggested.

The only problem with AKs advice is that your only gun is an ST, so you'll have to buy all stainless or nickel Sigs which will get quite expensive.
If you do sell her on the second gun, make sure you buy one that is all black, that way you'll be able to add either stainless or black guns to your collection. Once you do that, you can tell her "thats the same gun, I just changed the grips"
Good luck with that

Thats funny :D

They are in fact wear marks associated with I can only assume the previous owner's tactical junk being on there. It is a shame of course, but it does give it character. The mark shown in the picture looks worse then it actually is because of the flash and angel. I suppose I could try and buff it out with some scotch bright, but I would very much think it would really change the finish pattern in the stainless around that area and make it stand out more. Therefore the whole frame would likely have to be rebuffed. The marks will likely have to stay for now, on the plus side I won't be to upset when I scratch it for the first time.

I gave it a good cleaning yesterday and noticed that the grips never came off before for a cleaning... i noticed this because of the small rust marks under the grips panels towards the front. That was easily buffed out with some scotch bright.

And for what it's worth the firearm was manufactured march of '05.

You can try some Flitz polish.
I've had real good luck with it taking out some scratches on some of my stainless guns. Try it first on the frame under the grip panels to see if it will change the finish pattern.

Great family lonestar!
How do you like your P229 compared to your P226?
I've been thinking about getting a P228/P229 and was wondered what your thoughts on it were.

That hogue handall grip feels awesome on the P226 doesn't it?! I have yet to find another pistol that feels as good as my P226 with that grip. In fact - I've been planning on buying an SP-01 for a long while - now with the handall - I'm not so sure. Great grip.

Hey Big Red.. thanks

The P229R CT 9mm on the right is a great shooter and is my nightstand and night home gun. The CT Laser grips are great for keeping both eyes open for maximum SA and point shooting is on-the-money with them. I chose the P229 over the P226 simply for CCW purposes and at 2000 rounds, with no failures, just 100%, it is one of Sigs Carry models that shine in my book.

The center gun with the Hogue grips, which really finish the grip for me, is actually a P220R 45cal. I almost went P220 Carry, but I saw it at the last moment and had my Beretta Px4 40cal, also with Houge grips, with me and, comparing the two, they are almost the same size. Both are much narrower than the thicker slides of the smaller Carry P220's and is just a tad-less than 1/2" longer than my Px4, which is also a CCW gun for me. The P220 has performed flawlessly, shooting wise, and has never failed once thru 750 rounds of pure 45 cal bliss..

I'm sure that up the road, another Sig will find a good home here.. lol

My best to ya,

LS

Memories..

...

Great choice Eagle, as that is exactly what mine looked like when I eyed it in the display case, except, thanks to 1Blindref's pics of his guns, I immediately envisioned it with wood grips.

However, I did buy a pair of wrap around Hogue grips for it during the wait for the Coco Bolo grips..

Enjoy her, she'll shine for ya, no matter

I Love My 1st Sig!!!!

See post #885. All is good. This beautiful machine feels like an extension of my hand!!! But..., no range report yet. Sunday!!!

Just an FYI--Sig has just significantly dropped the prices on their Mosquitoes, bringing them into the $285-$350 range. I've got a number in stock.

Also, discounts available to members of the THR Sig Club. Just mention it when requesting a price.

:)

It's hard not to like a P229. How are you doing with the DAK trigger?
I'm shooting my P229 DAK tonight in my ranges IDPA match - I can't wait!
I'll probably take along my Trailside and do some cheap target shooting afterwards. I haven't shot my Trailside in about two years. Hope I remember how it works

Thanks for the info and the offer.
How are sales going for you??

I own a two-tone Sig P220R SAO. It is a thing of beauty in every way imaginable. I am so glad I did not go for that SA MC Operator that was calling my name. The Sig is just as accurate as the operator, the trigger is almost as light as the MC's, the recoil is not bad at all and it feels so much better in my hand than a 1911. I think it just plain looks awesome. it even has front strap serrations!

An option I would like to have in the future is to change to wood grips. Preferrably black wood grips (like those on the Equiniox). Sig does not make these for the SAO. As a matter of fact the only company I know that makes wood grips for the P220 SAO is Nill Grips. However, they only make them in a light wood color. Does anyone know where I can get dark wood grips for a P220 SAO?

Welcome to THR and the "Club"
I haven't seen anyone else other than Nill making SAO grips. Hopefully as time goes on, someone will start. The SAO has probably not been around long enough for aftermarket grip companys to put them in production.
You could try some custom grips makers like Wicked grips http://www.wickedgrips.com/ or Hakan Custom grips http://www.imageseek.com/hakan/ but they will cost you BIG $$$
Good luck with your quest - let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the info 1BLINDREF. I just sent an e-mail to Hogue asking them if they had plans for P220 SAO grips. The Nill grips are beautiful but I really think a darker wood color would look awesome on the two-tone. I guess I will just hang tight for now. The rubber factory grips don't look all that bad and they stick really well to my hand (Sig quality).

Customized Sig Elite?

After several visits to the range, I am now interested in purchasing my first Sig to be used for home defense and range shooting. I preferred the feel and accuracy of the Sig P226 and P229 (9mm) over others that I have tried (Sig P239 and P232, HK P2000, FNP9, Beretta PX4, and Glock 23).

I liked the look of a custom X5 on the Sig website but I would prefer a P226 or P229 in 9mm. Attached are some ideas that I cut and pasted together. Whether I went with the mostly stainless or the mostly Nitron look, I believe I would just need to have the slide refinished and controls replaced. But since the refinishing will take some work, would it make more sense to buy a used Elite and have the entire piece cleaned up and the necessary parts refinished in Nitron, nickel, chrome, etc…? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help! Also, please let me know if this should be posted in another part of the forum.

Welcome to THR and to The Sig Club!
I like your ideas about customizing the look of your gun. I like all the combos that you made. If you are set on a beavertail, then the choice comes down to either a P229 Elite or a P226 Elite. If you are planning to use the gun for range and HD only, I'd go for a P226. If you are going to use it for a CCW, the P229 might be more to your liking. The P229 is a little bit easier to conceal, but the P226 isn't that big that it can't be carried. There are quite a few members who CCW a full sized P220 and P226 on this board.
As far as should you buy new or used, if you are thinking of refinishing the gun to your tastes, I'd look for a used Elite. The new ones are a bit pricey and then you'll be putting more $$ into refinishing it. You could also buy a new one and just change the controls to what ever colors you want. What ever you decide, good luck! Make sure you post a picture or two when you get it.

Speaking of refinishing projects -
I got my W.German P226 back from CCR http://www.ccr-refinishing.com/
Brad and Mary are great to do deal with. They really care about customer service and Brad does an outstanding job. Here are a bunch of before and after pictures of the P226 that I sent them for a reverse two tone job.

Help Getting on to Sig Forum!

While I love this thread I would also like to be able to post to Sig Forum. I keep trying to register but I never receive a confirmation e-mail. Does someone know what the issue is or can someone give me the e-mail of one of the moderators at Sig Forum? I keep e-mailing the Webmaster e-mail but I never get any response. Any help from eny members from sigforum.com is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks 9mmepiphany. I have tried with three different e-mails. Including my e-mail from work. I don't know what the deal is. That's why I am trying to get in contact with one of the moderators.

LNL-
I couldn't get on with my aol address. I had to set up a new address in http://www.fastmail.fm/ . It took about 2 weeks to get on to the Sig Forum. They aren't as fast as they are over here. There is definately alot of great info to be had about Sigs there.
Here is lbj's email address - he is one of the owners 45(nospam)[email protected] .
Hope this helps.

1Blindf,

They did a nice job on refinishing your piece. It is quite the looker now.

USFBull,

You have to determine what your pistol is going to be used for. If it is to be a carry piece, you will need something small and compact like the Sig P232 or the (and my favorite) the S&W 642.

If you are interested in target shooting, I would go for the full size P226 Elite or my favorite and current target pistol, the P226 X5 L1.

It is all according to the reason you want the pistol and the job it is going to fulfill for you. I personally carry a S&W 642 as my daily carry, my girlfriend carries my Sig P232 as her daily carry, and I shoot target competition with my SigP226 X5 L1.

Good luck on your selection and enjoy!
