You're in for a treat Gary

Quote: Looks like it is time to fill out my Sig club membership card. Just placed my order for a new P226 .40.
...

Indeed you are, as the other day down at my range, I was shooting my P220R 45, and a nice young man and his girlfriend took the lane right next to me.

During reloading, I stepped back to watch his tiny GF shoot, and was enjoying watching her hanging on with each shot.. I then noticed the rather small hammer, and I asked her boyfriend was it a DAK?

He smiled and said yes, I just got it, and it is my favorite Sig.. And then asked If I wanted to shoot it.. :)

He loaded up 5 rounds for me, and it was my first DAK 6lb trigger pull, and I have to say, it was smooth as butter and broke like ice.. I then asked him if he had ever shot a DA/SA P220, and he hadn't so I handed him my gun and said enjoy..

He hands it back, smiling and said, yours is a 45cal, mine is a 40cal.. My jaw dropped, and we compared them side by side, and they were like twin guns.

The best part, and this is what you will enjoy, (you probably already know with 300 rounds out one) was that I thought while shooting his gun, that it was a 45, as the recoil was so docile/pure to me.. LOL

It turned out to be a P226 40cal DAK, and he turned out to be a LEO from up north out of Santa Barbara down visiting his girlfriend..

Trust me, your Sig happiness hasn't gotten out of the gate yet.. lol

You're gonna be one happy Sig owner with that gun.. and you'll soon be running.. :)

lonestar,

I'm definitely excited to bring it home. Sadly, with thanksgiving coming I may have to wait until the following week. :(

My brother is visiting for the holiday from New Jersey and in the market for a pistol to bring to the range and for the home. Guess we'll be renting for one more weekend. There is no way I'm letting him leave the state without shooting a Sig. He said he thinks it is more than he wants to spend but after shooting a glock and an xd with lower price tags I'm sure he'll realize it is money well spent.

Possible other choice in 40cal..

...

To start off, I think the 40cal is a proven, HD/SD, caliber that packs a punch.

With that said:

What I like about this Sig club, is that it is not bound up with snops and is alive and well with many members with other fine guns, besides Sigs..

One thing you might suggest IF price for a NIB gun is the only issue dividing you two..

I can strongly attest to both the accuracy and the dependability, and like Sigs, and this is one of my KEY issues, is that my Beretta Px4 40 cal has gone 5500 rounds without any failures, just 100%, as is true of P220, P229, and this is because IMHO, fine craftsmanship/design, and the "ease" of quick, disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly, of these 2 guns.

I do say this softley within these fine Sig Halls, but the Px4 40cal is right there along side the Sig P226, in forgiveness with recoil, and makes for a fine 40cal HD/SD weapon that cost much less new, around 400 - 500 bucks NIB.

I let both the young man and his tiny girlfriend fire a mag full, each, with my Px4 and, after her first DA pull, don't know where the bullet went..lol, she starting hitting COM hits with the SA pulls, which brought a smile to her face and his.

When he fired, his first full DA pull hit dead center, as did the following 9 SA shots, making for a 1.5" group, at 10yds. I've let a fair share of beginners, and vets, fire my Px4, and I have never seen anyone come that close with accuracy for the first time with my Px4..

To be fair, as I observed her shooting the Sig 40cal, I think most of the problem was the DAK trigger, vs the SA of my Beretta, as far as her shooting better COM hits with my 40cal.

I'll take a look at the px4 but I don't know of any beretta rentals available in this area. The range I go to seems to have Sig, Glock, XD with a smattering of Colts.

Maybe someone in the NH area could give me some information on other rental options?

Thanks for the info.

I just dropped my P226ST off at UPS for its trip to Grayguns. It will be getting the CRRAP trigger work, an Intermediate Trigger (basically the in-between to the stock and short trigger), and a stock rear-sight.

I had asked about night sight opinions, and think that I prefer the dot/bar alignment system, so the rear two-dot nightsight is being replaced with a stock rear sight. I will only have the front nightsight now, but think it will work just fine.

Once I get the gun back, I'll be sure to post a report.

Happy Turkey Day to all!!

Just wanted to wish everybody here a happy and safe Thanksgiving! :)

I do say this softley within these fine Sig Halls, but the Px4 40cal is right there along side the Sig P226,
BLASPHEMY!!
We won't have that kind of talk around here!! :neener::neener:

Seriously,
Beretta makes a fine quality weapon. I've never shot a PX4, but I do have some others in my collection and a 96 Inox with CTs serves as my HD gun.

P226 Sct

Holy Cow guys! Sorry for such a delay in posting. Been up in Boston for a family death and running about with a couple of high profile executive protection gigs. Had an opportunity to put 500 rounds thru my new P226 SCT and 300 thru my new P239 backup. The actions worked like butter, no FTF or hiccups. I have pics on the way...

The P226 SCT is equipped with tac light and CT lasergrips. TIGHT groupings at 50 feet. All I can say is...wish you guys were there to play! Going again this weekend!

I bought my first this year for CC....a P239-9. The pistol is smooooth and accurate. I love it. That 226 would sure make a nice present under my tree.

Guys...I'm about to revert to Marine days and curse my Para-Ord TacFour .45 out! I am so ready to scrap it and buy either the Sig P220 or GSR Revolution earlier than expected. The PO TacFour has a SERIOUS FTE problem. The company says that the weapon is fine. I have shot all types of .45 ammo through it, and it all FTE's after 4-7 rounds. Glad I bought it from a friend who needed a little cash, and I didn't lose my shirt. Any ideas?

My vote is for

...

A P220, as mine and many others in here have gone 1k + rounds without ANY failures, just 100% and soooooooo easy to disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble..

Thanks for the suggestion, Lonestar! I have actually shot the P220 back in 1996 and almost bought it off of a Marine buddy of mine. My ex-wife didn't approve. That is one of the many reasons why she's my ex!

Secured1 - Sorry for your loss :(

Welcome to the Club.
It sounds like it could be the magazine - maybe a worn out mag spring?
Have you tried different mags or changed the magazine spring?

If you go the Sig route, I'd recommend a P220 unless you want a 1911 platform. They are a little more tried and true then the GSRs and you've already shot one and you know it fits you.

What are you planning to do with your P226ST when you get it back- CCW or range gun?

I've been thinking about sending my KA code P226 to Bruce. I just used it to shoot IDPA for the first time and I went from about 8th - 10th place all the way down to 3rd place. I knew I'd do better with it (I was shooting my P229 .40 DAK), but I didn't think I'd move up that far.
The IDPA matches at my club aren't official matches, but I'm really getting into it and I'd like to start shooting in "real" matches.

What are you planning to do with your P226ST when you get it back- CCW or range gun?

My P226ST will just be for range fun / home defense. That's why I went with the standard trigger package and not the next level competition one. The actual pull weight shouldn't change much (if at all) - it will just be a whole lot smoother.

I would like to check out some of the various 'gun games' that are available when it gets warmer, but want to compete using something 'normal' for me as opposed to a race-gun type setup. Figure try and get good using either the P226ST or my new M&P45 as those two will be the primary home defense weapons. Then, once I get a hang of things and realize I need a dedicated 'game' gun, I can go out and get a G34 and go from there.

Just as an update from a couple of pages ago, I finally got a chance to put a few rounds through my P220 last weekend. Wow, that SA trigger pull is really something, isn't it? Not quite like a 1911, but pretty darn close! Much different than my Glock. The gun is very accurate, as I expected, and very easy to take down and clean. At $335 I almost feel like I stole it

Color me impressed. This won't be my last SIG.

Just installed a TJ Custom trigger in a new-to-me pre-owned P229. I feel great joy at having discovered how sweet this combo really is, but great regret and anguish I did not try this combo about the mid-1990's! I had looked at a P229 in .40 about then, and noted the excellent feel of the grip, but the standard SIG trigger, with its squared-off profile, did not agree with me. Then, in 1997, I bought two Kimbers to use as duty pistols, to beat a deadline to "grandfather" them as duty pistols before my agency instituted a policy change to certain DA autos in .40 S&W. (I already had a reliable Colt 1911 that I really liked, but its Royal Blue finish was too pretty to mar with regular street duty.) In 2002, I had to dump the 1911, when my increasinly skinny hands were found to not reliably disengage the 1911 grip safety during exteme fast draws during transition drills while attending a patrol carbine cert course. I went with a pair of Glock G22s as duty pistols, and bought a G27 as back-up. In 2004, I found a short-trigger P229R DAK, and saw the light. How much money did I spend on 1911 pistols and accessories, and Glock pistols and accessories, from 1997 to 2002? That would have been better spent on practice ammo. Yes, TJ Custom triggers were available in 1997, as were SIG factory short triggers. I just never saw or tried them. Live and learn.

I got to add another Sig to my collection bringing the total to... 2.

But in addition to my p220 ST, I am now the proud papa of a NIB p226R bi-tone in .40 S&W.

Man this sig thing really is an addiction.

Finally got my p226 .40.

IMG_1623.jpg

I'll probably take it to the range today or tomorrow and shoot some of the ammo I've been hoarding in anticipation.
