Sigs

I recently acquired a Sig P229R for my departmental duty weapon. The DAK trigger, at a measured 6.3 pounds, is sooo nice that it caused me to shriek in my sleep for over a week. I don't give a damn if I ever see another make or model of defensive handgun. :)

I just got a W.German P220 with date code "KD", which makes it a '93. However, what's puzzling me is the fact that by then Germany was already reunified, and West Germany had ceased to exist as a political entity. It's been just "Germany" since '90 or '91. Anybody have insight into this puzzle?

.....a lot of slides made that they had to use?
^^^ what he said.

I bought a new P220 back in 1995. It doesn't have a date code on it, but I know it was made or put together in 1994/1995. The slide says made in W.Germany but the "W" in stamped over with what looks like a 0.
Here is a picture of it. If you look close you can see it.

1BLINDREF,

That gun was assembled here in the US. I have a P228 which bares the same markings.

All German assembled guns have proof marks but law IIRC. Slides bound for US assembly do not.

It is a folded carbon steel slide which does make it better than todays stainless.

That is correct. I believe they must also have some kind of date code or date of manufacter stamped on them.

Sig must have had a bunch of pre-stamped "W.Germany" slides that they hadn't stamped proof marks or date codes on them. They probably shipped them over here to have the guns assembled.

I wonder if the "W" was stamped over in Gemany before they shipped them, or over here when they arrived.

Happy Fathers Day!

Been away from THR for a couple of weeks.
With the uncertainty of the up coming election, I finally scratched my EBR itch and bought an Armalite AR10  so I've been hanging around AR15.com

I was at my range over this past weekend and got to shoot a P250 in 9mm. I really liked the way the gun felt and shot for me. I like the DAK trigger, so the DAO trigger of the P250 felt really good to me. It was accurate and recoil was non-existant.

I think I know what my next Sig purchase might be ;)

Something is coming July 6th for me..

...

And soon thereafter, a new first-time-owner of a SIG with the initials of KV, who is getting the same gun/caliber as me..

Any guesses as to what kind (and caliber)??

Pics will show winners..

1Blindref is not eligible for the guessing.. :neener:

Neither is Rellascout.. :neener:

Ps.. neither is KV.. :neener:

I would have guessed a 38H in .380acp ;)

The twin is home.. P229/40cal

...

Just got back from the range with my new/barely/used P229 40.. :)

She fired 100 rounds of FMJ 180gr and 25 rounds of JHP 180gr on-target and without one hiccup, just 100%.

Transferred the CT grips from the P229/9mm to see if she was accurate with them, and YEP, just like any, and all, of my SIGS, they are just dialed-in from the get-go..

Panel grips or another set of CT grips, and she'll be rdy for work.. :)

New/used one on left, old used one on right.. lol

Hey, I'm probably going to be buying a Sig P6 in a few weeks, and something just hit me. Can you switch calibers easily with the German surplus guns? Like, swap out the barrel, and you have a .40 or .357 SIG? Might be a stupid question, but worth asking.

hey if you guys are interested and running your Sigs to their full capability, take a look at the new Grayguns Training website i just got up and running. it includes the location and dates of class, class descriptions and a link to the free Dry Fire Packet

i'm also open to suggestions

so far (1) i know the pictures aren't up yet (2) i know the "L" is missing from the word "steel". take a look at:

Negative, not possible. I'd still recommend buying one though, they're great for the $$! I paid $270 for mine, you can find them cheap if you look hard!

Somehow, I didn't think you could get away with that. Won't stop me from buying one though, either at the gun show or AIM Surplus.

:what: Nice collection!

How do you like that GSR?
How many rounds (approx) do you have through it?
Have you had any "issues" with it?

I've been thinking about adding one to my collection. I don't have any 1911s and I like the feel of the GSR. I shot two different ones and really liked them.

Welcome to the "Club"!
Thanks for sharing your collection with us :)

The only thing I do not like about my Gen 1 GSR is the shape of the Beavertail. The hump on it starts to ding into your hand after extended shooting. Otherwise I love it.

They seem to have worked out the major kinks. I hear less issues with the GSR these days then the P220.

Like the others have said: no.

As an aside, you can't convert a 9mm P229 to fire .40/357 SIG, though you can convert the 40/357 model to fire 9mm. :)

Sigs and IDPA?

Anyone here shoot IDPA with a Sig?

If so, what model/caliber and how do you do against all of the Glocks and XDs?

I'm getting into IDPA and have been shooting an old (KA) P226. I do pretty well with it but I'm usually the only Sig at my clubs shoot. I usually finish in the top 5. It's not an Official IDPA match, but I'd like to start shooting Official matches and I'd like to know if there are any shooters that use Sigs.

Out of about 20 or so shooters, there are usually about 8-9 Glocks, 3-4 XDs, and the rest are Berettas, CZs, and 1911s.

i just thought you all might get a kick out of some custom Sig work from Grayguns

this is a 220 Elite, which has been converted to 10mm and refinished in Gray-gun-nite
