Just fill out the ATF form 1 to make or the form 4 to buy. Send it in with the $200 check, form 5330.20 attesting to your US citizenship, fingerprint cards and mugshots. Sheriff signs back of form 1 or 4, unless you use a trust or Corp. Takes 2-3 months now, lots more people applying since Obama was elected.

The short form is, see your local class 3 dealer and give them money and they'll guide you through the process.

hso and those others who live in TN are lucky. Sheriff's are required by state law to sign ATF forms on demand if the person submiting them is allowed to own firearms.

You can just set up a trust and skip the sheriff*. That's what I did. I can't wait for the ATF to approve my paperwork! But I just submitted it yesterday, so that means I'm going to be waiting



*That might depend on your location. I don't know. But I was under the impression that it was federal.
