Hello Everyone,

I'm in the marketing for a silencer for a custom AR-10 and a couple of other rifles chambered for .308 Winchester.

Who makes the best silencers for rifles on the market?

Thanks for the help.

I hate to start a reply to the question with another question... but what are silencers for? "Hearing protection"? I just don't see the whole concept. Please feel free to adress Anthony first.

A lot of silencers, but they forget a major brand:
BR Tuote, reflex suppressor
http://guns.connect.fi/rs/Reflex.html

I own one for 30caliber, actually fitted for a 30-30 H&R, in a near futur a 30-284 barrel will be threaded.
A 45-70 Nef barrel is being threaded and a bigger holer will be fitted.

My H&R 30-30 tactical: (in fact a fine paper puncher).

You have also Stopson:

Who make some fine products. I own one of them.

The supppressed barrel is a 300sav, 1-8" twist.
The front barrel is a 30-284, thread candidat.
Barrels are "hot swapable".

The best perhaps!, I know them and they are good.

Suppressors arent importable pascal, otherwise we would already be doing it.

There are tons of knowledgeable people at www.silencertests.com on the forums. There are also a ton of tests on actual rifle and pistol cans.

Plenty of companies can make you a good can. AAC, SRT, Gemtech, etc. There are tons I have forgotten.

I know that regulation vary with State, but I wasn't aware that importation was forbiden.

They are maybe "tons" of suppressors, I only speak about those I know.
Don't know anything about Ar15 silencer, but have a little knowledge about 30caliber.

It was the stupid 68 Gun Control Act that banned importation of anything that wasnt "sporting"- basically a reaction to race riots in a bunch of US cities in the mid 60s. Anyway, they said that anything on the 1934 NFA list was automatically non-sporting, which includes silencers.

have you actually used a surefire? (I haven't) i just thought the growing consensus on internet gun nut forums was disappointment* in their performance.

would be nice to hear someone say they don't suck, or at least are getting better.

*disappointment=="worst we've ever tested"

interesting. like i said, that's good to hear. care to comment on durability/service life of them compared to others?

I don't have hard data on their service life. My best guess is they are excellent in that regard since they are made of high-temp metals and are welded completely. I am pretty sure that there was a misinformation campaign put out by one of their competitors that they are only recovering from as more people get experience with them. Their sound levels are not that great, but they mostly make up for it with light weight and what appears to be good durability.

The companies I listed I like because they have acceptable sound levels and are all welded and with acceptable quick mounts. If you don't want a quick mount, SWR's Omega-30 is fine. There may be others, but the ones listed I know are good.

They are for sure completely Illegal in Illinois correct?

Definitely for mere citizens. The only exception I could find referred to licensed manufacturers.
