Silencers (suppresors), Allowed/banned

I know about the tax stamps and the Police Chief approval thing, but if you move, do you need approval from the PD in your new jurisdiction? I'm military, so I'll be moving every few years and it would suck to buy a can and find out that the PD at my new base won't sign off on it.

You only need to use a trust or a corp if the CLEO refuses to sign your Form 3.
No, a Form 3 is a tax free transfer from SOT to SOT. A Form 1 is a making form and a Form 4 is a tax paid transfer form.

Legal to own, illegal to use? What?
It's true. Welcome to Washington.

Colinthepilot, intrastate moves do not require authorization (except in NC I heard). Interstate just needs to be legal in the new state. The ATF like to be notified of the move, but I don't recall that it is required to inform them.

Owning a silencer in WA where their use is banned absolutely does not defeat the purpose. Thanks to those new inventions called airplanes and automobiles, I am able to bring my suppressed rifles with me when I visit or work in other states that are not so oppressive. :) When WA gets around to banning AOW and silencers like they did for all other title 2 guns, I will be grandfathered in. Or at worst, I can move to another state. Never let the government stand in the way of your doing something that is legal.

It is just sad there are any restrictions on suppressors at all. It is easier for me to get one in Britain than it is in NC. They need to get by the old mentality of the great depression when they introduced it to cut down on starving poachers going after the wildlife on people's estates.

Which is ironically humorous, as poachers generally didn't bother with silencers.

If I bought a suppressor for a .22 and paid the $200 stamp can I move it from firearm to firearm? in other words, the $200 is for the suppressor, not a specific gun/ supressor combo, right?

I would believe so, but PTK would be able to tell you more on that, seeing as how he actually has suppressed weapons and I do not.

Also I wanted to know if XD9's from Springfield Armory were able to be modified to accept a Silencer. Thanks

Yes, you can put a suppressor on any gun that it will fit.

The tax stamp is for the silencer itself, not the gun/silencer combo. :)

Extended/threaded barrel, yes. You'd have to use a silencer with a Nielsen device (most pistol caliber silencers have one) to ensure proper cycling.
