I will soon be getting a CZ 452 Varmint in .17hmr and want a high power scope but do not want to spend over $100 for a decent scope. What do you know about the Simmons 6-18x40 ProHunter Rifle Scope? This particular scope costs $70. Does it keep its zero? Will the point of impact change when the power is changed on this scope? I am not worried about the affects of recoil since it will only be on the .17hmr. If you have any other scope suggestions that fit this criteria, please let me know. Thanks.

Let's look at it this way.

If you buy the $70 scope, and it breaks, or doesn't hold zero, and you end up having to replace it with a better scope (maybe in the $150-$200), you will have spent considerably more than if you had just bought the better scope to begin with.

My wife had one in 3-9 on her 223 for a while, kept zero fine, but would give her eye strain after a couple of hours

She has since replaced it

It will keep it's zero just fine. I have a 3-9X40 mounted on my .22LR and it works great. Frankly speaking you aren't shooting a caliber that'll strain the performance of any scope. I mean that as more of a commentary on the relatively short effective range of the cartridge than the shooter.
