On Friday I purchased 3 rifles.
2 Mosins and an unfortunatly sporterized( Mutilated IMO) Savage No.4 Mk1*
Original forestock was cut down, site guard and upper handguards also gone.
All "S" stamps are visible on all remaining " factory" parts including butt. Has the flamming bomb proof mark's on barrel, right side of reciever and under serial number and has the US Property roll stamp. All matching serial#'s including Savage marked Magazine.
It's my guess it's an early 1943 production based on serial # and research I have come to find on line.
Here is the question and it has me concerned/confused.
On left side of the receiver it does not have the Savage "S" stamped before the model #.
This is only the second Enfield I have owned, the other being a FR 1963 RFI and all research I have done has led me to dead ends regarding this stamp being missing.
Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
