Simple Powder storage box.

I assumed you would be putting a top on the box. .......

You assumed correct....the drop-on top protects from heat....on the other hand it's loose and prevents "containment" unless you store something on top to weight it down.....obviously not a good idea. Plus the wall seams are as weak as you can get.....and there are a lot of them all around the box.:D

I actually see some small gaps between the 2x4 soldiers, so there is plenty of air getting in and out! I built it slightly stronger than specified, as I originally thought you wanted 24x15 and 26x15 walls of plywood, and once you posted the directions about not making it airtight, I just had my buddy at Home Depot cut those pieces in half, so there is a bit more solidity to the box, but still plenty of venting on the lower half, and it is still loosely fit together.

If you were building something to contain primers, would you use similar construction, or make it even weaker?

I've got a lot of powders in a drawer sitting next to each other. I marked the contents on the red tops with a magic marker; on the black tops I stuck a piece of orange duct tape and wrote the type of powder on that. Makes it quicker and I think, safer... (*never get out but one type of powder at a time and you won't get the tops mixed up) (** even after all that, always double check the label before you pour)

Shrinkmd, not sure what you built, but I have 2X4 lumber sides not plywood.

The top and bottom are identical 2 pcs. of plywood each, one is fastened to the 2x4 sides, the other is the loose top. Click this attachment for a passable visual idea. Adobe didn't convert the Autocad 3d rendering too well, but maybe you'll get the idea.

Can't answer the primer question......I don't keep very many of those at my house as they are real explosives. Ask your fire dept? :)
