Single Shot Rifle

There's nothing like an iron-sighted bolt-action single shot .22LR for learning the fundamentals of shooting. You have to re-acquire a good sight picture and re-establish your hold for each round.

Single Shot Rifles

IF i had to i would trust my Handi Rifle with my life they are great guns have several of them & 0000 problems &i am buying a 223 Rem 24" & put it on my Handi- Rifle thats is 500 S&W Magnum on it

I've got a Browning B-78, octagonal barreled, .22-250. Leupold 4.5X-14. Nice shooting rifle. A single shot kind of makes you take your time and make every shot count.

Well, they have not seen much daylight for a decade, due to us being tied down caring for my elderly father-in-law*, but I certainly favor my two Rugers. Both are big bores, .375 H&H and .45-70 Government, but I have my eye on something .30 and smaller for an eventual purchase.

Biggest advantages? Elegance is a big one; I love 'em. Handling; I love the balance and ergonomics. This, alone, is enough, but the practical side is that I get plenty of barrel length in a quite handy-sized rifle.

Disadvantages? Well, I will select something else for home/self defense, such as one of my Mini-14 carbines. I will select something else if walking among large dangerous mammals, or supplement the single-shot rifle with something like my SRH Alaskan. (Not everything I own is a Ruger! :) )

*Beloved "Little Dad" passed from this world 03-03-12, so I am/will be getting out more.

When I take to the field with one of my single-shots, muzzle-loader or cartridge, I am accompanied by the ghosts of Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Billy Dixon, and all the rest of those men who explored and settled the west. :)

As a friend of mine once said, "All rifles should look like a Sharps rifle!"

Here are my cartridge guns. Top to bottom: .45-70 Pedersoli Reproduction Sharps, Browning Low-wall Hunter in .30-30, Browning Low-wall in .223, Ruger #3 in
.223.

Reminds me, I've got to go camping in the desert!:D

I never gave a lot of thought about having a single shot rifle, but I found one at local Gun shop at a price too cheap to leave it there. Rossi youth model in .223 caliber, I had intended to give it to the grandson but its too much fun to shoot so he will have to wait. This one has me on the look out for other barrels just for the heck of it.

I have a T/C Contender which briefly saw life as a .44 magnum carbine with 16.25" barrel.

The Contender's most recent iteration has been as a scoped 14" .22 LR match pistol (the "Hammer of the Squirrels"), but I've had a yen to get a shoulder stock back on it, so I ordered a 23" .22 LR match barrel and scope base.

I'm really intrigued by the .204 Ruger cartridge, but I have limited access to +300 yard shooting hereabouts...
