I am in the market for a nice single stack DA/SA for summer carry in hot humid Houston. Something without a safety lever. All I can find are DAOish compacts.

Anything I'm missing? Any recommendations?

I'm not sure if the Ultrastar would fit your bill, because I'm not sure if I'm reading you right on the safety matter. Is it that you'd like a DA/SA decocker, rather than a safety? Nothing wrong with that but I'm not sure why the Walther-style hammer-drop safety isn't just as good ... can't you just apply the safety, dropping the hammer, and then flip the lever the other way, for a nice safe DA ready? (I'm asking for decock vs. safety opinions in general; I've wondered about decockers for a while.)

In any case, the Ultrastar is described by Wikipedia as being comfortable, and it's a single-stack double-action, and I think Bonifacio Echeverria is still making them (although I think their name changed when the Star and Astra brands merged).

not really a DA/SA, but a really nice small and safe carry gun is the HK P7.

i only bring it up because of the LE refurbs currently on the market at about half what they were going for

+1 on p5 it is a little on the thick side though. 3914 second choice. sigs third. if not limited to da/sa i would go for the hk p7

HK P7E (SA only, but unique firing mechanism with squeeze cocker)
Sig P6 (P225) best deal going right now
Walther P5
Sig P239

I like DA/SA alot. I don't mind DAO. I won't pay for a handgun with a safety. Just don't like them.

I like the P6, but I remember that even though they are single stack they are not much smaller than a G19.

I need to find out more about this P5.

The P239 is an awesome gun, it also pinches me whenever I grip one. Not too bad, but not comfortable at all.

Another vote for the 3913. Mine is easily concealed, very accurate, light weight, and ultra reliable. They can be found LNIB, for cheap. If the 3913 ever appeared on the cover of a gunrag, they would cost several times what they do now.

IMHO, the 3913 is the ultimate CCW 9mm, for me. TJ
