How much of a diference does single vs double stack make in effective CCW?

Best thing to do is go to your nearest gun shop and try them for yourself...

But from my own experiance. Owning a Kahr P9 single stack and 2 compact double stacks, the single is noticably thinner...
Just like a single stack 1911 is also very thin for a .45 auto...drf

I'm a minor for another couple of months, so a handgun is a long way off. Just looking for your opinions. Thanks!

In my opinion the width of the firearm makes a whole lot of difference as far as CCW is concerned. I much prefer single stacks for concealment.

It depends on the gun.

My Steyr S40 is a double stack and is much thinner then my brother's single stack Mauser M2.

Overall, single stacks tend to be thinner then double stacks and when you're sticking something in your pants thin is good.

In my opinion, not much difference!

As long as you are willing to do that which is necessary to carry a particular weapon it can be carried concealed effectively. At this very moment I am carrying a 5" Kimber Polymer 1911 with 10+1 rounds (double stack) of 230 grain FMJ ammo. I have a very good IWB holster and a very good (1-3/4") heavy leather belt designed for carrying and it is a very effective and comfortable carry combination. Wear my trousers one size larger. From time to time I use the same rig to carry a full size Kimber 1911 Eclipse (single stack) and, quite frankly I do not notice very much difference between them as far as concealed carry is concerned. IMHO pretty much any gun (within reason of course) can be employed as a carry gun as long as the carrier is willing to do the "right stuff". Good shooting;)

My favorite carry guns are a single-stack SiG P220 and a double-stack P228. I don't notice a lot of difference between them, under a vest or an untucked shirt. Of course, the 228 is a bit shorter than the 220.

If I need to get smaller, I go with the P232. If I need to get bigger, there's always the Winchester Defender.

This is kind of strange but when drawing I find my fat Beretta is easier to grip than my P7. Easier to get my fingers under that round fat grip I guess?

I found the difference to be amazing. My single-stack 1911 is so much more comfortable IWB than my G29 it's like night and day.

That plus I was finding myself neglecting to pack a spare magazine with the 29, due to the mag being almost harder to keep from printing than the gun (and me being lazy about it). With the single-stack 1911 mags, I'm back to carrying a spare regularly.

I think that if the gun takes advantage of the slimness offered with the single-stack design, at least in my experience, the difference can be substantial.

Lots of variables. If I can get a double stack close to a single stack width I'll go with that. I settled on the CZ 75 based guns. I have a CZ 75B, CZ 85 Compact and CZ RAMI all ready to ride with me . . . once I manage to get my constitutional rights back.
