Looks real cool!
If I am not mistaken, by converting it to fire modern ammo (if this option is chosen) wouldn't that be creating a modern gun, and would you not then have to go through a FFL to get the customer's finished gun back?
If I am wrong I apologize, but I am not really sure how the law reads on this.

That would be true if the gun were altered to only shoot cartridges. since he is using a drop in cylinder, he need only ship it back with the black powder cylinder installed. if you were really paranoid, I suppose he could even ship the cylinder separate.

Haven't I done work for you in the past?

To answer your question:

The law is based on "intent". I as a class 1 FFL cannot manufacture firearms for resale. ALL individuals have the Federal right to build a firearm for themselves, NFA rules apply to short barrel (SBR) and AOW. But to "build" a firearm for yourself (i.e., installing a conversion cylinder into a cap and ball non-fiream) you are the one with the intent. I, then as a FFl can receive that firearm from you and perform gunsmithing services on it and mail it back to you. I have to log it into my books as a firearm (with calibre, serial, model, etc.) with a copy of your drivers license, then back out to you when services are completed. This is perfectly legal. I accept firerms from non-FFL individuals as long as they include a valid copy of their drivers license.

It is surprising how much voodoo and missinformation the internet spins into this.......

well here's my favorite BP snubby! :D it's small, it's cute, fit's right in my pocket:

I like to take if fishing or when I go tot he forest, it's real compact. And as a bonus it's built like a Swiss watch.

Hammer?

I really like your hammer profile! How is that done?
I don't want to ask for secrets OK? but the shape is so unique! It wouldn't tend to snag as well as the stock hammer would.
Do you heat and bend it or is it a new machiened part?
Belly guns have always been an intrest of mine ever since I owned a .38 S&W revolver. It wasn't very powerfull but just enough to fend off an attacker and make him to get medical help quick!

No secret just experience and talent!:neener:

But seriously, you could hand file and grind and heat and bend. Just be ready to buy another one from Lisa at VTI if you are unhappy with the results.

I use a mill and a fixture I made to hold it and checker with a checkering file that I bought from Brownells. There is still some minor smoothing done by hand but I have much more control over the finished product.

Regards, Gary

I like the idea of shortening one of those .44 brass framed colts, less barrel would mean less friction, therefore less stress on the arbor. I think that might be a good idea, and with 18-20 grains you could have a nice little pocket rocket for pretty cheap too!

No, you haven't. done work for me.
Sorry; I wasn't trying to spread misinformation, and didn't realize you had an FFL. I am a member on a number of gun forums and I can't really keep track of an individual's details from all of them.
I meant no offense; sorry.

You forced me to do it! I've been visiting this forum for about 2 years now. Enjoying many posts and even learning a few things! But this snubby has made me a member just so I can request that Hoof Hearted contact me (PM ?) as I have an 1860 that is oh-so-stock. I'm an older bird and not very computer savy but am trying to learn my way around. Thanks
