I have just come into possession of a SKB 600 20 gauge which was imported by Ithaca. (The picture has the SKB on the right next to my Citori for size comparison.) This is going to be my wife's sporting clays shotgun, her first gun. She shot it recently and loved it, we just need to get the stock slightly cut down to fit her. I wanted to see what info my fellow High Road members have of the SKB 600. The serial is CF66XXXX but from what I've read Ithaca lost or destroyed the information that would let me get an actual date for the gun.

Any information or opinions are welcome!

Good guns, well built. As to cutting the stock. It might be worth the investment to get her to a real stock fitter as just cutting down the stock can cause more problems if done incorrectly. When you cut it, you also change the cast, the toe, the pitch, the drop at heel and drop at comb and can make the fit worse than before. Coupled with the issue is that most females need different measurements from the beginning due to their physical differences such a longer necks, etc.

That's exactly the next step. Finding someone who knows what they're doing when it come to the stock.

Andrew: I bought my Ithaca/SKB 20 gauge Over & Under, like yours new in 1972. It has been a Great Shotgun, mine is a Mod/Imp, 26in barrels I belive. I have Hunted just about every Upland Game Bird I can think of with this gun, and have never had any type of problems with it. I have shot Clay Birds a few times with it also, again never a problem of any kind with my gun. My Gun fit me extremley well from the first day I bought it. And it shoots very well for me. IMHO Ithaca/SKB made a very good quality O/U Shotgun. It is a darn shame that they still don`t. I will be hunting again this year with this Old Gun it is like, hunting with an Old Friend. I would be real carefull about cutting the stock, matching the stain Ithaca use back then, is very hard diffucult to do. If I could ansewer any of your questions, I would be happy to do so.

It really is a great gun. This too is 26 inch barrel with Mod/Imp choke. We definitely are going to take care to get it fit correctly to my wife. Like I said it is her first gun (she was born and raised in NJ) and never had shot a gun until we met in college. Got married in April and figured it was time she had her own instead of using a different gun every time we manage to go shooting.

I wish the gun fit her as is because when I tried it out I thought it was a great shooter but unfortunately the length of pull was just too long for her.
