i made another post asking if anyone tried a detachable magazine for an sks from cabelas. what ive read online mostly is, "only polymer tapcos work".

well from using snap caps in my living room im sitting here telling you thats not true. this 30 round steel magazine from cabelas appears to be GREAT. finish is very nice, it doesnt look like every ak mag that looks like it got drug behind a truck. as long as i dont beat it up it should stay nice. it chambers ejects and holds the bolt open on the last round just like the factory ten round does. ill know tomorrow if it fires the same. it fits in the mag well perfectly, doesnt rattle like my buddys wasr.

stay tuned for the range report tomorrow afternoon.

for now here are some pics. dig my scope i bought from my local gun shop (even though hes an ass and i wont go back) for 20 bucks. its ok, 15 dollar mount from ebay is AWESOME, tiny bit of filing, fits tight as hell, no wiggle very solid mount, and i can still use my iron sights!!

let me know what you guys think, i just cant bring myself to take this really nice wood stock off my chinese sks, otherwise i might have put a polymer on.

That looks like fun.

I've had 30rd mags for SKS's that worked in the past, but it's been so long ago I really have no idea who made it.

Congrats on finding one that works for you.

Wood looks fine, nice SKS, I refinished my Chinese, stripped it and did a nice walnut color with Tung Oil made the wood look great.

That is the same brand mag I had in my Chinese SKS, then my Russian, then gave to a buddy with a Yugo and I have it back now. No matter what we did it would not consisantly work. Every once in a while a hang up, jam or mis-feed.

Hope you have better luck, maybe you got a good one, and give us a range report.:)

Glad yours works. I have a 40-rounder that works reasonably well, but not anywhere near as reliable as the original fixed mag. I've also tried 20 and 10 round detachables, and they both sucked.

I've finally given up on trying to get mine to work, and put the fixed mag back in.
