I have the gun you are thinking about making actually I have two modified Yugos

The T-6 stock is 3 parts the magazine is another 3, and the new Tapcos have been getting rave reviews as far as reliability
Now all you need to replace is the op rod and gas tube
That's it and now you are 922 compliant, meaning that the gun is no longer considered imported so the GL bayo and night sight do not need to come off. They should come off because they are butt ugly but they don't need to

Personally I would not have one of the after market folding stocks
A friend had one and it reminded me of that rubber pencil trick we did in school
It was almost impossible to get off a second aimed shot until the gun stopped wiggling

The gun looks pretty good in a Dragonov type stock but the T-6 just didn't look or feel right to me.
I bought a cracked stock Yugo 59 from SOG for $110 and I like that config worked a lot better

The GL took about ten minutes and some propane to get off and the rest of the assembly took about the same

As an alternative configuration I could not use the TAPCO stock and just get a cheap folding one, but I keep the magazine fixed (saves me a couple bucks that I have to tade for an operating rod and gas tube to stay legal).

If you do that you will have to find three more parts to replace the magazine parts

You are following me on this one. I bought a German Mauser and Mosin Nagant because they're beautiful, and you couldn't pay me to sell or modify either...I bought an SKS the very day I learned of HR1022 and PA HB30 and put an AK on layaway within 2 months. In addition to trying to organize a letter writing campaign, it was my way of giving the middle finger to those gun grabbing #@!$#@!$!

That said, of course I want to modify the SKS. I want to make it look EVIL. I also want to make it something that won't make my dad FREAK when he sees it. Thanks all for the input and the surplus rifle link. I'm going to try it. It will take some time due to my still needing to get a year's worth of firewood together, but when done I plan to find this thread and post pics and a pic of my target with grouping.
