sorry for the dumb question, but no one will ever confuse me with a gunsmith.
I have a preban norinco sks. I had it converted to accept hi-cap mags.
Is it possible to have the original 10 rd. fixed box magazine successfully and reliably put back in place??

thanks a bunch

That depends on what you did to convert it to hi-cap mags.

Most folks just add "Duckbill" magazines. You can revert easily if you use these. Just field strip and add the 10 round fixed mag when you put it back together.

If you're using the duckbill mags, there wasn't actually a "conversion" done to your rifle. The original fixed mag was just removed. Find yourself a fixed mag and install it. It's not difficult at all.

pop the trigger group out by pressing in the dtent at the back of the trigger guard, slide the bolt back and insert the fixed style 10 rnd mag,pop the trigger group back in by pressing it till the dtent pops back in behind the triggerguard and your set.the safty has to be on or off..i cant remember for the dtent to move.the trick is hooking the front of the fixed mag properly so that when you put the trigger group back,it doesnt fall out.

Thanks guys- I appreciate the info.
I got this gun back when so many of them were coming in at such a cheap price. Should have bought about 5 of them. I wanted the 30 rd. 'assault' weapon. Didn't realize the reliability problems I would have with all those CHEAP mags out there.
I look forward to having my gun back in its original reliable and relatively accurate form.
That SKS was one of the first rifles that I purchased myself (I had a couple others, but they were gifts from dad). I have some fond memories of plinking with that rifle with friends right off my front porch at the first little house I was living in out in the country when I first moved out of my parent's house...

Hmmm . . . if it's genuinely "preban" the hicap mag may actually add a ridiculous amount of value to the rifle in somebody's mind. I see "preban" AKs selling for quadruple the original price - you might check around to see what your SKS is worth.
