I'm trying to reinstall the factory mag on my SKS. The only problem is, I can't seem to get the trigger group to flush with the magazine. I can get the trigger group in by itself, but when I try and put it in with the magazine, the trigger group just won't pop in, it's like the magazine doesn't give it the little bit of space it needs.

The trigger is on safety, the magazine well open, I improperly installed it the first time, and didn't get the front of the mag in with the little ledge that holds the front of it. I fixed that, but now I can't get this puzzle together.

So what's the problem?

the mag goes in first then the trigger group sandwiches it all together some times it can be alittle stiff to get it to all pop inplace

They can be tight. Take your time and don't get so frustrated to hammer it or something. I've sat down with a 1954 Tula SKS and wondered if my gun-assembly-Fu had grown weak with the very same problem.

Is the bolt locked back? You may be able to get the FCG to latch with the bolt closed, but it is much easier with the bolt locked back. Seating the front of that duckbill into the spot on the receiver is a bit of pain sometimes.

Does it assemble without any problem without the stock? If not, the fit b/w the mag and receiver may still not be quite right.

Jam the front as far as it will go in and then rock it in. It can be tight...if you see a spacing issue take a tiny bit of material off.

It's like I can feel a dead end when I push. Maybe I need to re-seat the magazine? Maybe the magazine is too flat and is getting in the way?

I think it is a spacing issue. The trigger group just won't get over that little button that unlatches it. The magazine looks to have been grinded before. Should I try and grind a little off so the trigger group fits?

Does the FCG fit into the latch without the stock? Assemble the receiver, mag and FCG without the stock and you will know for sure if it is a fit issue or you just do not have the mag in the correct slot in the receiver. It is hard to see if the mag is correctly placed when the receiver is in the stock, but you can verify fit and see everything clearly when the rifle is assembled without the stock.
