SKS mags/stripper clips

A couple of points:

SKS rifle has a FIXED standard magazine. All detatchable magazines are aftermarket unless you've got a Chinese SKS-D.

Stripper clips are of the 10rd variety and will charge your double-stack magazine just fine. You insert the clip in the clip-guide provided on the bolt carrier when it's locked open, you push down on the top round until all rounds are fully seated in the magazine, and then you remove the stripper clip.

Unlike the Garand Clip, you don't insert the whole shebang into the magazine.

Those are the correct stripper clips for the SKS. I don't know about the detachable mags (heard they weren't as reliable, so never got'em) but the fixed 10 round mag that came with my Yugo SKS is double-stack. Stripper clips + fixed 10rd mag = 100% reliability for 1500+ rounds for me so far, YMMV.

I have a Chinese model and going to guess on the-D part. It has a different mag from the stadard Yugo at the shop.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Tony

Don't know for sure about this since I have never really handled the detachable mags (buddy has one, but it has issues), but if you can top load the rifle by hand with the detachable mag in place, you should be able to use the stripper clips to load the rifle even if you are using the detachable mag. BTW, stripper clips for the SKS work great ;) .

The mags look quite different than the ($400) ak in the shop.
I want to use the 10(?) rounder that I got with the rifle. I don't like the huge 20 or 30 round handle, I mean mags. I am planing on putting the 10 rounder on the gun and leaving it on.
I don't like the fact that you can't load it when it is off of the gun, as opposed the the 20 rounder.
Thanks again,
Tony

This whole SUR :D thing is new to me, thanks for helping
