Gents;
Is there such a thing as a RELIABLE and SOLID optics mount for the SKS? I've seen a lot of reciever/dust cover replacements but are they truely solid? Can they maintain zero?

If anyone can recommend a good picatinney rail mount I'd appreciate it. Sights on the SKS are not desirable, so I'd like to mount a nice compact red dot.

Thanks.

Why scope an SKS. It was never designed for glass and it probably will not help unless you have bad eyes. I am looking at the tech sights soon.

The only ones that work well and retain the irons are the Chicom style side optic plates. Kalinka sometimes has them in stock and they do require drilling your receiver.

I'd rather buy lottery tickets than a dust cover mount. The chances of 'winning' are better. BSW

If you are looking for something that is "RELIABLE and SOLID", skip the scope and check out a set of tech sights. Here is the link http://www.tech-sights.com/

I have had them on my norinco sks for about a year and LOVE them. I had a dust cover scope mount for a almost 10 years with decent success. I would NEVER go back to a scope with my SKS now that I have tried these sights.

If you want a red dot, add a williams fire sight and you will have a great combination for ~1/2 the price of a good red dot!

I have a B-Square receiver mount for mine and have a Simmons AR scope on it. Mine's been shooting just fine with it and haven't had any issues.

I bought a Walther PS22 red dot that comes with a cantilever mount, that I have mounted to the gas tube rail on the Tapco Interfuse stock. I'll repost after a range trip.

Guys;
Appreciate the feedback. Looks like either techsights or Marstar. For the record, the eyesite is perfect, but I just think the sights on an SKS pretty much ruin a decent rifle. Looking to go either aperture style sight, or red dot. Always been a red dot fan because they are simple.

Thanks

I can vouch for the SKS techsights as well, LeverGunJunkie ... they are a huge improvement over the stock rear notch and add quite a bit of sight radius.
They're pretty spiffy for a 10/22 as well, I've got them on both (all) of my 10/22 rifles also.

I may be pushing it, but I have one more question: If I were to utilize the scout scope mount with a red dot/Eotech type deal, could you actually co-witness the sights if you use a set of tech-sights? That would be a potentially great set-up. Can any of you experienced gents comment?

I can't imagine adding more after tech-sights, myself.
They're mounted pretty low, I don't think they would share an axis with any optic mounted on the pistol cover or in place of the stock rear sight, but if there's a really low-mounted red dot it might be possible.

The only mount I have seen that holds zero for magnified optics was an old Weaver side plate mount - but you have to drill the receiver and mod the stock.

Choate offers a cast side mount for the SKS, it's the only one I have seen that would be secure, and unlike an AK side mount you don't have to remove wood from the stock.

UPDATE: I know this thread is a couple months old so forgive me. But, I went with the tech-sights, and man what a difference! Love the sight radius and ease of target acquisition. Most of all, I love that fact that I converted my shotgun patterns (old shot groups) into actual, bonafide decent groups now. Amazing. I sighted it in @ 25yrds in 5 rounds yesterday. Couldn't be happier. Ease of installation is a bonus as well. I recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable sighting solution on an SKS or AK.

If you have the time and ammo, you can fine tune just about any weapon within reason. The SKS/AK was never meant for optics manily due to the jarring of the shell ejections, will eventually throw a scope's accuracy off. I've alway liked peep sights. I may check out the Tech Sight.
