SKS To AK47?

It would be interesting to see an SKS stock which has been adapted to use AK furniture. Sort of like the "Krinker Plinker" for the ruger 10/22.

It would be relatively easy to build and design, the SKS is not an AK, but you have to admit, they are similar in appearance.

Justin, Good luck with your project - It sounds like you will end up with something pretty unique. The market right now is flooded with SKSs in many different configurations - but they are all still pretty much the same.

And POST PICTURES! By the way, what model SKS do you have?

Its a Yugo SKS 59/66 with the grenade launcher thing on the end. Unique is exactly what I'm looking for, I love the way a stock SKS looks but, I feel it would look better with a nice Reddish wood, clean finish, 30rd mag, and the best part: the wood pistol grip, a REAL pistol grip that is contoured shaped to your fingers. Lets hope the ATF is ok with the config i'm going for so I can have a one of a kind SKS. :) Thanks for the input, be on the look out around mid to late June for pictures.

How about going with an SKS-D. Best of both worlds. And regular SKS furniture works. This is an SKS that was designed to take AK mags. Love the three I have.

Unfortunately, otherthan a synthetic stock, I don't think you will have much luck. With the amount of cash you are going to have to outlay to get a pistol grip stock made, it might be cost prohibitive. Any of the major players in custom stocks could make you one, but are you willing to pay several hundred dollars for the stock for you sks?

I have seen the SKS-D's going from $400-1200. Depending on regular or carbine length.

That answer is YES. I don't buy guns to shoot and hold for a little bit and sell them off. I buy a gun to keep, collect, and pass on to a future son. I DON'T really care if it is going to cost a few hundred for a stock. As I said before, I want to have a unique and one of a kind SKS. I work hard for my money, in my eyes, this stock is not a waste. Some may think it is money better spent somewhere else, I'm pretty sure my son will thank me later on in life when I hand it down to him.

That answer is YES.

Good for you. Sounds like you have a wonderful idea. You should have exactly what you want. I also have a contact that does Left Handed charging bolts for the SKS. I think any compitent Stockmaker can build this for you. Just inform them the style of grip that you want and ask for their suggestions. With the design of the sks, Not using a laminate might be cause to much stress unless you go to a wooden dragonav style, which once again in best in laminate. I see lots of different used firearms thru my shop. On older guns, a common problem is cracking at the grip. Google search then check some various gun boards for the manufacturer. Also make sure you price several different stock makers.
