Hi guys, I am considering this SKS for my first gun. Some of the reasons include price of ammo, price of the gun, maturity of the gun and hunting deer. Any thoughts or comments about this is appreciated. Thanks much

I suppose an sks is ok if that's what you can afford. I have 4 of them. the chinese one has a sling swivel on the cheek side of the wood and it is most uncomfy on my right cheek. great for plinking. there are better choices out there for deer sized game for the same price as an sks

The SKS is a great first rifle (it's my first and only, currently!). I really like the fact that you can easily strip almost the entire thing with no tools. Not only that, but they can't be beat for the price (price of the gun OR the ammo).

Just make sure the firing pin rattles when you shake the bolt; the firing pin is supposed to free float. Otherwise, it's a pretty straight-forward rifle, very good for beginners (not quite as good as a .22, but oh well)
