The saiga is just fine without "converting" it.

I assume by converting, this means the use of straight AK mags? If so, then I agree that it should be converted simply on account of commonality and ease of finding AK mags. I think the stock saiga is fine as is, but the conversion makes it nicer.

by conversion they mean (if I am not mistaken) changing the stock, trigger position, and mags.... I like the gun the way it is... an AK is not comfortable to me in the least... mags are cheaper sure... but I dont feel the need to own 37 mags for each of my guns, I dont mind the trigger position and prefer the saiga stock to the original ak stock...

No, I believe that everyone is referring to moving the trigger forward and adding the traditional AK style furniture, but the magwell modification is also worthwhile IMO. :)

You've got to be mindful of 922r if you take a stock Saiga and do just the magwell modification so it'll accept regular AK magazines... To my understanding, taking a stock Saiga and sticking a 30-rd AK magazine on it would be in violation. If you're going to modify a Saiga to accept boxmags, you've got to go the whole 9 yards.

That is mostly true...you could leave it with a stock/sporting appearance but you would still have to replace some of the parts for their American made counterparts. :)

I would not give up my Saiga for an SKS. In fact, I sold my SKS to fund the purchase of a NIB Saiga, but in the 308.
Love it, and it is unconverted.
