SKS: What do you guys think?

Hi Too Taxed I will ask if they can get more.I found out why the the last 2 rounds would sometimes stick...I didn't know that you load the rds from the top of rifle .I had been turning the rifle upside down and loaded it ,then closed the mag.Found a picture of rifle being loaded..Umm!
For a cheap priced rifle it hits the center of paper plate from as far back as I can see it using the iron sights .Shot 20 rds in the rain today just couldn't wait to shoot it again.I would need a scope to see at any further distance.Very happy with my SKS.

.22/.22Mag: If you'll get a few of the still-inexpensive stripper clips for your SKS you'll see just how fast and easily that mag can be loaded! With a bit of practice it's every bit as quick as changing boxes. Maybe even faster as there's no empty to remove first.

You're also in luck should you want to 'scope it. The aftermarket is full of options for mounting setups. Many are DIY, and require only basic mechanical skills and household tools to install. There are pros and cons involved with all the various sorts, so a bit of trolling through the several dedicated SKS boards might be helpful in making a choice.

Most of them fall into three basic catagories: Receiver mounts which replace the rear cover; "Scout" types which generally utilize the rear sight's fixture; and those which attach to the receiver "conventionally" with screws via drilled-and-tapped holes.

Whichever you may choose, I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how easy it can be to get consistent "A" zone hits with a "cheap" utility rifle out to 300 yds or so once you find the ammo it likes best.

Shoushu,

Did you get the SKS? If you will be so kind, can you send us an update?

Thanks,

-Pat

Actually, I picked up a fairly nice Yugo($175) at one of my local gunshops. I had a really hard time convincing any of the FFL's in my area that I could have a Russian SKS shipped into California.

My pick up date isn't until tomorrow. I will post pics as soon as I get it and a range report as soon as I get a chance to take it down to the range. Thanks again for all your advice everyone.

I got my first legal sks from a gun show in california for 300 bucks.
was Russian and had supposedly less than 20 rounds through it.
When I had a C&R I was having so many sks rifles sent to me the ups man
asked if I had started a militia and if he could be on my side. I haven't had a yugo just all Russian and one romanian. I like the way they come apart so easy. I had the the high caps for it but the standard 10 keeps it more sleek for crawling through bushes and is probly more reliable. I switched to the spike bayonet for faster blood flow and I also put a pistol grip on it and a red dot scope wich made it illegal for california but the cops gave it back with three other supposed assault weapons after two court appearances and a lot of hastling. They tryed to say the mag was detachable.
