Mods, I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in "smithing, move if appropo.

I have been offered a pre-war JP Sauer in 16 guage at what I feel is a fairly reasonable price.

The gun locks up tight, and cosmetically looks good. I did not have an opportunity to pull the triggers, as the gentleman selling it did not have any snap-caps, and wasn't about to dry-fire it without them.

Over-all it is a pretty good looking little gun, until you look down the barrels.

Both barrels are pitted, although for the most part I would say not badly enough to be dangerous, except for one spot in the left-hand barrel. There is a verticle pit, that looks fairly deep and runs over a quarter of the diameter of the barrel. It is about an inch and a half to two inches in front of the chamber.

I'm a little leery, needless to say, of shooting it in its present condition.

A friend has told me he has heard of places that will sleeve old shotgun barrels, and that might be a solution, but I'm wondering if any one here has ever had thatdone, and if so, how well did it work?

Thanks
