So I just went to the gunsmith to get some new Trijicon night sights installed onto my SIG P228 - he was recommended by a couple of the gun shops here.

When I got back, I found that the front sight was very slightly crooked, and that the rear sight seemed to me moved very slightly to the left, apparently to compensate for it. He said that he had it zeroed in to point of aim, and I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but is this something that is common?

If not, I suppose I could take it back but if it's nothing then I won't even bother. Visually, it's not that big of a deal but I want to make sure it won't affect my aiming.

I'll try to shoot it and see if it works well ASAP, but for my temporary peace of mind, does anybody have any experiences on this?

PS: I know you can't tell me if it's zeroed or not, just wondering if this is something that is common.

if your front sight is crooked in reference to the old sights, then the problem is that either the new front sight was made wrong or crooked or that the gunsmith filed it down wrong making it sit at an angle, I would make him install a new one even at your cost front sights are cheap.

Sig Sight Sorrow

Looking for a little help with a Sig p226 I fired for the first time today. I am having an accuracy problem with this pistol. Shoots quite low. I have searched online and have not been able to find a lower front sight. Anybody with input would be great. Thanx

I had that exact thing happen with my Springfield Ultra Compact v-10. The slide is ported, and the front sight is staked, in the orignal colt fashion. Evidently the hole was off just a little, and the new front sight didnt set in quite square. I was not a happy camper when I first saw this, but I gave the gunsmith the benifit of doubt, and took it home to try it out. It shoots right on, and has since had over a thousand rounds put through it without any change in point of impact. The issue was only evident to me, and uppon close inspection, so it really wasnt an issue to me, but if your front sight is worse, and doesnt shoot to point of aim, I would be taking it back for the 'smith to make right.

Don't touch the sight Have it bench shot and shot by other people . Its new to you and their a good chance you the cause of shooting low . Rule yourself out by having others shoot it and Bench shoot it. On my Board http://bersachat.com under FAQ I have posted a target that tells what your doing wrong

With a Sig, you must cover the target with the front sight dot, not use the 6OC hold. I personally don't like it, but thats the way Sig does it.....They do offer different height front and rear sights, as they are all numbered, call Sig they will happily sell you a different sight$$$
