We have had a few false alarms, but it looks like today or tomarrow we will be heading to the hospital to have our first child.

So to keep this gun related.....

Should her first rifle be an AR-15 or an Ak-47? :D

Congrats Itgoesboom!!!! I'd say get her the AK. Stocks are short and should fit her well. Besides you'll need all the extra money you saved buying the AK over an AR to help pay for the designer shooting outfit with matching belt and mag holders. lol

Congratulations, IGB. My daughter will be four months old this week. I suspect a .22-LR would make the best first rifle.

Congrats. I like the Chipmunk .22 as a first rifle for a kid. My daughter will be 5 soon, and I think she might get one in the next year. Then she can pass it on to her little brother who should be arriving in a month or so. :)

+1 on the Chipmunk ... or a CZ 452 Scout. But also pick up a copy of Mas Ayoob's Gunproof your Children. You probably know the content, but I've found it a good thing to give to well-meaning family members to read when they raised questions about guns and kids.

And congratulations!

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them ..." Psalm 127:3-5

Congratulations!!!

I'll say it again. Congrats, man. As a relatively new dad myself, I'll just throw out one peice of advice. Spend as much time with her as you can. It seems like my wife and I just found out she was pregnant a week ago, but our son will be a year old next month. Time flies! Use it wisely.
And, to keep it firearm related, my 11 month old son has a .22 bolt action in my cabinet that was bought a week before he was born. Should have been two months before, but he wanted out NOW!

yep, i agree w/1911 guy. its awesome to be a dad but the time does fly. my 3 yr old little girl has shot a bubble gun and thats about it for now. i do, have in my safe, a 22mag and 22 pistol that she will go shoot before too much longer. although....the other replies are interesting too....

I think her first gun should be a .22 boltgun. Maybe a Chipmunk or equiv. But that's just me...

Congrats on the impending event! I hope all goes well. As father of 7 and grandfather of one, I can say you're in for the best life has to offer. Although it'll be about 3-4 months before you'll start to believe me. And maybe 20 year before you fully appreciate it.

Congratulations, life is about to change...seriously. And you won't believe how much better it can be. That said, my daughter is about 8 months, and I'm wrestling with the same question. :scrutiny:

I think a Cricket...in pink.

My vote: buy a Marlin 39A, keep it back for her until she's old enough, and then she'll appreciate it. That, and that'll give you plenty of time to work the action to get it glass-smooth for her (you want to give her the best rifle possible, right? :p ). That, and mount an optic on it, it'll be sweet.

Or an AR, since you can mess with all the accessories to "see what suits her best"--22, 223, .50......choices, choices :D

Con-friggin-gratulations man!!

Why not go all out and pick her up a Barrett .50cal. Of course you'll have to keep it in safe keeping for her 'til she's ready for it. :D

Congrats Boom!

All but my youngest have left the nest, and I still remember the trip to the hospital fondly. Got to relive the trip a couple of times with his older sisters when the grandkids came along.

By the time it's all over with you will be so physically and emotionally exhausted you will swear Elvis just walked past your wife's room.:D

But then the spoiling begins.

In this politically correct world you must celebrate diversity. Get the kid both!!

Suggested Reading

Others have suggested books to help you get on with being a father, here's my recomendation. "Tender Warrior" by Stu Weber. If you can apply all the insight he gives you're a far better man than I.
