I'd like to install some basic sling swivels into the wood stock of my sporterized Mosin Nagant rifle.

Can anyone explain the easiest way to do this? Thank you!!

Well, suppose the easiest thing would be to grab a dog collar sling from one of the milsurp outfits. But if by sporterized, you mean the original sling slots are gone, then go the Finnish route as displayed here:

Kinda oogly, but then the beauty of the MN is not on the outside.

What ungodly things have you done to your Mosin? This information will allow us to help you.

Barrel cut to 16 1/2" and the stock cut off to match, so it doesn't have a front sling dingus (slot).

Can I just buy the uncle mikes ones from Wal-Mart and drill a pilot hole in the stock and screw the sling swivels in? Something like these:

Trust me, this gun is already "ruined" so do not need anything period correct!! It IS however a BLAST to shoot... you think the 20" carbines make an intense blast? The 16 1/2" is even more ferocious!! Yes, spare me, but with your VAST armory of Mosins I don't think we're in any danger of running out of original examples!!! :D

Was just wondering about the stock configuration, and poking a little fun at the same time. The problem with the original stock is the cleaning rod channel. You can use the studs you posted but placement will be a key factor..
The easiest would be to mount the studs to the left side of the stock. The front stud being placed just behind where the rear barrel band was.
To mount on the bottom of the stock you would place the stud about an inch behind the rear barrel band, but you will have to fill the cleaning rod hole so that the stud has enough to screw into. This can be done by fitting a wood dowel into the cleaning rod hole.
Or use the Uncle Mikes Swivels for Lever Action, Tube Magazine Rifles and Carbines
Magnum Band. You may need to do a little fitting.

Gunny has steered you right Coldill. The lever action mounts can change your POI but probably less than anticipating the blast from your Mosin flamethrower. Quite a few videos of short barreled Mosins on youtube that have quite impressive blasts.

I got some sling swivels with wood screws off amazon. There was enough meat below the ramrod tunnel to fit the swivel, it turned out really nice and I think they're in very strongly. Should make a dandy brush buster Mosin into a dandier one. :)

Thanks all!
