here's my expereinces after 2 shooting sessions using this combo:
used Browning BPS Investor Plus choke 12 ga pump shottie w/ 3" chamber (factory applied Mossy Oak Shadowgrass camo on synthetic furniture); Browning monickered--Briley manufactured--Sabot Express rifled choke tube (has the red ring on the muzzle end); Lightfield Lite Sabot Slugs (12 ga, 1.25 oz, 1300fps muzzle velocity, 2049 ft-lbs muzzle energy)
I had @ 15 boxes of these slugs stashed when I was setting up a Remington 870 based shotgun combo before I had problems with several Reminton brand barrels (sold the Remmy 870 with its barrels & sold Hastings rifled barrel and Mueller 2-7 x 32 scope elsewhere);
since I had significant investment in the sabot slugs ($11 - $13/box), I wanted to use them for deer hunting in the BPS without investing in another barrel & scope combo since I regeared with some new rifles; used BPS cost $339; slug choke cost $63; and cost of slugs disclosed earlier
first session: public range, 25 yards, daylight collecting front bead tube; slugs landing 3" high and 1 1/2" to 2" left with 2" spread for 3 shots...not exactly impressive, yet it would take a deer within 50 yards; also kind rushed since I had 2 other longguns and the range kept getting filled up with interruptions for people to go downrange and check results
second session: private land, just under 30 yards, same shottie, choke tube, slugs, and daylight sight; slugs landing 2 1/4" to 2 3/4" high & centered with 3 slug holes kissing each other and 2 others making a 2" spread; better performance and feeling reassured in having this combo as a backup in the field...good enough without needing to attain perfection
trajectory table for Lightfield Lite slugs that is printed on back of box...
100 yard zero; -1.5" at muzzle; +1.33" at 25 yards; +2.67" at 50 yards; +2.29" at 75 yards; 0" rise or fall at 100 yards; -4.38" at 125 yards
based on this trajectory table...@2 1/2" rise without a true zero or adjustable sights or scope doesn't seem unreasonable...point & shoot with hits in the vitals
