been pondering....with all the high caps out there, even the G26 and what not....how many prefer and actually carry a big bore compact gun?

the guns ive been looking at are the :

Charter Arms Bulldog .44spl
Kahr PM45 or CW45
Glock 36

anybody actually carry these? im trying to stay thin as can be, giving the "pocket carry" option as well as IWB. OWB carry need not apply, i have a G20 or G29 for that.

im taking about the smallest of the big bore guns. and of course are always appreciated with carry rigs.

Had a pm45 and once you get used to hangin on to it just rite, it's a pleasure, nowhere near the recoil you'd expect, I loved it

the G36 is a bit big for this criteria as its as big as a G19. but ive seen chopped and magna-ported bulldog .44spls that looked pretty sweet.

i puposely ommited the CW45 Kahr because i want to go as smallas reasonably possible...

The Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special makes a great carry gun and it does start with a 4 so you know it's good! lol. The .44 Special is a good round for SD IMO.

theres a guy on here that has a magna ported 44 bulldog that --deleted-- evey time i see it...though the two bulldogs i had years ago were crapola. im still sort of jonsin' for a PM45 also....im trying to decide if i should sell my CDE to fund my latest obsession.....(i have two other 10mm guns to satisfy that need....)

Now that the Ecker family is back at Charter Arms the QC is again outstanding. Charter Arms went through several incarnations over the past 20 years, one worse than the other. The original company was great and innovating, they invented the cross-bar safety and gave it to everyone instead of patenting it. Anything made by Charger Arms since it's been back in good hands is a quality product. (2 years or so)

If thin is what you want try the Colt new agent.I have one and it can be carried in some pockets although I mostly carry owb everything.

I am finding the .44 Special revolver intriguing lately as well. I own two Charter Arms revolvers, both Undercover 38 models (one from 1966, the other from 1987) and they have been fine, well-assembled pieces. So, I do like the Bulldog. I also have handled and liked the Taurus 445 (I've owned a M66 .357 since 1987, and it's been good as well), but have shot neither.

Once the gunsmith finally gets it done my big bore CCW is going to be a custom Old Model Single-Six converted to 41 Special. The small frame big bore combo should be a perfect packing pistol.:what:

For right now I have to comfort myself with packing a 9x18 semiauto.

I would look into this if I was shopping for one:

It kind of tells you how overpriced the rest of the stuff is.

I'd like a Taurus 450. 2" barrel, 5 shots of .45 Colt...

But in the meantime I'll just keep carrying my HSc in .32 ACP instead ;)

PM45 has been in my pocket most of the last two years. It really does handle the recoil well and has been completely reliable. The XDs is just about the same size and should work good too.

Jimbo555. You are right about the Colt New Agent. Slim, accurate, ddependabble!,

Well, it's smaller than the glock 30. Thinner than the 30, but probably (ought to weigh both) a bit heavier.

You can't get a larger caliber in anything near this small.

I like big bore guns, nothing wrong with a 9mm/.38 but there's something about a .45 that I've always liked... I've got a Colt New Agent in .45, not quite a pocket gun though it's awesome for IWB.

I wouldn't mind a snubbie revolver in either .44 Special or .45ACP.

yes, i forgot that the XD is a mini .45acp very much like the Kahr.

the Taurus big bore wheelies, 2" 5 shooters......

I've owned both Glock 19 and 36. They fit the same holsters of that tells you anything. And... I still prefer carrying a Glock 26. Since I rarely carry an extra mag, I just like having 11 rounds in the gun, even if they are 9mm.

Oh, and it's still lighter than a Redhawk 44 mag :)

jeepnik, do you actually carry that AMT .45? i shot on back in 1993 and it was a jamomatic....it was a fellow cop's and he carried as a BUG but it wouldnt stumble through one magazine without jamming on me...no i didnt limp wrist it. i had the same version but in .380 back then too.

oh yeah, lets not forget the glock GAP gun that pretty small too.

I carried a G-36 for several years. Very relible, readilly controlanble and quite accurate. I finally opted for pocket carry of a Kahr PM-9. Today I might consider the Kahr PM-45.

I like having 10-20 rounds, so I tend to stay in the 9mm ballpark. It is easy to shoot, fast for follow up and gives me a whole lot more shots before I have to reload. Now, if I was restricted in how many rounds I could carry by something like platform (ie: revolver, single stack) or some asinine law (NY 10rd law) then I would be carrying the biggest damn ones I would reasonably shoot well, 1911, Ruger P345, S&W M29 snubbie etc... So, no I don't, but I would if I had to.

It must be something in the dna of Americans but I feel more secure carrying a 45! If you want high capacity and a 45caliber there are options out there.
