I have used CCI pistol primers (small and large) for many years. I see some Rem 5-1/2 SPP available on the internet. I've never used Remington pistol primers (I have used quite a lot of Rem Rifle primers). Any reason to not pick up the Remington primers? Have any of you had issues with them?

No reason what so ever. Just know they are Remington's version of magnum primers so they may be hotter than "standard" primers.
With Remington primers, the 1 1/2 are their "standard" primers.

I thought the only difference between the 5-1/2 and the1-1/2, is that the 1-1/2 has a softer cup and is not recommended for higher pressure cartridges like 9mm and 357 Mag.

I’ve always understood it that way too. In fact, my blown out Rem 1-1/2 primers @ min charge demand that I do.

5-1/2s are hard. Two of my pistols did not set them off reliably.
Only Tula primers are harder ime.

Some members say they are hotter, I personally have never noticed a difference between them. I used them in 9mm, and reduced loads of everything else I load and have never had any problems with them not going off. They are not that hard. Most of my revolvers have spring kits in them to reduce trigger pull and hammer pull and have no problems with the 5 1/2s.

As I said in post 2, they "may" be hotter than standard. We have no way of telling, so no one really knows unless they load duplicate loads with each primer and shoot them over a chrono to see if there is a speed difference.

So to circle back to the OP's original question, which of the two Rem primers are the same as the CCI #500 spp?

BTW, those are now widely available......if you have the means........about $90 per brick before haz mat and shipping.
