I know they're both large pistol. I'm wondering if the Remingtons are applicable for standard and magnum loads, like the Winchester large pistols are.

I'm getting ready to load 240 gr. XTPs in .44 mag with H110, and my Hodgdon 2011 shows these Rem 2 1/2 primers with all their .44 mag data. I know H110/W296 usually require a magnum primer for proper ignition, so I guess it worked well enough for them in their testing.

Anybody have experience using these primers with full-house .44 magnum loads? I also have some WLPs and CCI 300 and 350s on hand...

Remington doesn't make a specific large pistol magnum primer so like Winchester their primer is hot enough to work for magnum loads. Since Hodgdon lists them for use in their data for H110/296 there should be no doubt as to their appropriateness for these loads.

Do Remington 2 1/2 Primers work well with W296 & H110 ??

I knew Winchester only had the WLP, now Remington only as the one, the 2 1/2 , Interesting. Still wonder if the Rem. Primers works OK with W296? Anyone else other then Steve C ?

I've never noticed that fact as I only use CCI which offers both. I would contact Remington and Winchester and ask them if their standard primer is OK with magnum powder charges such as 296 and H110. It's not good to run a powder like those if they aren't getting enough ignition to produce an effective or complete burn. An incomplete burn with those powders can be simular to reducing the charge and can drive pressure up.

I have never used Remington 2 1/2 primers but I can verify Hodgdon is listing Remington 2 1/2 LP primers in their .44 Magnum load data including W296/H110, Lil'Gun and HS-6. Considering Hodgdon recommends Magnum strength primers for use with those powders and they are using Remington 2 1/2 primers in their data I would venture to say they are fine for that application.

Until just now I have never checked into that and I have to say, I'm a little surprised. I usually use CCI and Winchester primers and had no idea Remington didn't have a LPM primer and their 2 1/2 primers could be used to light off those Ball Powders. Gota love learning new stuff!!
