I want to get your recommendations for books on tactics. I wanted books on everything from fireteam to company sized actions. Real history and Military SOPs would be good. I do not expect one book to cover all that I am interesed in.

I saw www.Biggerhammer.net which has a section on the Marine Corps MOUT doctrine (I have read the army version and look forward to reading a more recent Marine version.

Please speak up if you are/were infantry. I appreciate your professional opinions.

Here are some I have read.

1. Principles of Personal Defense By Jeff Cooper.
2. Survival Guns By Mel Tappan.
3. Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights By Cirillo.
4. Survival Shooting By Tom Givens.
5. Tactical Reality By Louis Awerbuck.
6. The Defensive Shotgun By Louis Awerbuck.

Can't site a source, but... if it's doctrine you're after, US Army FM 7-70 Light Infantry Platoon/Squad is fairly comprehensive with "by the book" info.

Army Manuals

FM 7-8 The Infantry Platoon and Squad
FM 7-10 The Infantry Company
FM 90-10-1 The Infantryman's Guide to Urban Combat
The Ranger Handbook
The above are all still in print and you should be able to find them fairly easily

These are out of print but worth it if you can find a copy.
There is a Special Text that was published by the Infantry School titled Dismounted Patrolling that is simply outstanding.
FM 7-70 The Light Infantry Platoon and Squad
FM 7-71 The Light Infantry Reconnisance Platoon

Sapper Comabt Leadership Course Handbook and ranger handbook are both excellent manuels. Ranger handbook is a little more on tactics, while sapper handbook tactics with a more combat engineer slant with all sorts of sneaky improvised demolitions and other nasty tricks.

I learned more from the sapper handbook and the course itself on small unit tactics than I have on any other course the military has offered me.
