Small vending machine for selling ammo at range?

I think it's a fantastic idea. It sounds like it's going to
be within the range, selling ammo for use on the range,
so I think you'll be OK from a legal standpoint.

I really don't see that there would be any legal issues to this any different from what we do currently (just handing folks ammo in exchange for reimbursement).

The vending machines in our price range are probably all coin-op, so the RSO would still need to make change, which takes almost as much time as selling the ammo.

However, the novelty factor might outweigh much of that.

AWSOME

Ok so its an awsome idea, I agree you may worry about the falling thing but I really like it. Also when I first read this thread I was kinda distracted so I envisioned one of those CLAW machines like they use for stuffed animal prizes that you can never win and I was like "duh ammo is heavy". I realize now my error. But seriously bad- idea, I would come to your range for that alone.

Falling down: not an issue.

The machines in our price range are the "tabletop" kind, which weigh around 85lbs, and only have a drop of about 8 inches.

A little foam padding at the bottom would alleviate even that minor issue.

Just saw an episode of "Drawn Together" that had coin-op vending machines selling pistols (Which wound up turning about halfway and the revolver got stuck on the trigger guard, and the character buying it wound up beating the heck out of it to get the revolver to finally fall) and also a bigger one selling assault rifles. Heck of an idea!
Of course the show is absurd in premise and the episode was actually somewhat antigun (but funny!) but still, stock your machine with Lorcins, Jennings, Hipoints, and ammo for same. Should sell out fast!

(Of course I am only kidding)

Yeah, but you'd be standing there for a while plugging in quarters.

Probably at least 80 quarters to buy a Lorcin...

Imagine a single machine that vends ammo, cigarettes, and beer.

Oh, you mean the ATF-2000? There's one up on eBay for $99.99

If any of you punks at UF Pistol Rifle Club outbid me on it, we will have words... That goes double for the rifle club at MTU.

I'm already stocking up on Miller High Life and Lucky Strikes to stock it with when it comes in, in addition to the Aguila we have on hand.

I've seen bill slots that will take enything up to a twenty. Probably a bit more expensive than the $1 only systems, but they're out there. Might look at dollar coins or something for change-quarters can get heavy.

I cant find the ATF-2000 (as expected) if this were a real auction would you post an item number.
kd7nqb is online now Report Post

That's because I exercised the "buy now" option. Sure, it cost me $275, but that's a small price to pay to keep it out of the hands of a Texan. :D

Sorry MatthewVanitas, but that baby belongs here in the Gator Nation. Better luck next time. :neener:

I can see the movie now.
Bad guy is shooting up the place, dead bodies lay strew about the place.
Our hero is down to his last two shots. He misses!
Next scene, he is fishing in his pockets for loose change as the bad guy approaches...

Slot Machine anyone?

How about a slot machine that gave out winnings as ammo rather then coins.

You could have a machine for every common caliber.

There has to be a warehouse someplace that is filled to the rafters with old cigarette machines.

I imagine that they could be retro-fitted and placed in conveninet locations to dispense popular handgun calibers. It would be kind of neat to pull the long knob on one of those puppies and hear a box of .45 ACP "clunk" into the tray at the bottom.

And I thought that beer vending machines were cool!

I do miss the pull knobs of those old cigarette machines. Kind of made the reward worth the effort. Funny thing is; I have never smoked. When I was a kid, my mom used to send me to the corner market with 85¢ to get her Pall Malls. I understand now that those machines had to be banned to protect me.

Ummmm ... Change machine?
P.S.
I hear you can make a lot of money off of those puppies.

This is a great idea!

But remember to double check the legal issues with selling ammo on campus. It might be treated differently when you automate it.

Depending on how much time and money you have, you could probably get an engineering student or two to build something for you. Cannibalize an old vending machine if you need to.

Seems like the rest of the world (Japan/Korea/Europe) is a bit ahead of America in the tech commerce area, but perhaps credit card purchases via vending maching (or cell phone purchases) would ensure age verification.

(Its funny that we automatically think of coins when talking about vending machines...that's quaint. lol)

On top of the ID problem, the other problem i see with this is theft....

Look at a soda or snack machine. Maybe there's $50 worth of soda or food in one of those... another 50-100 in money.

The ammo machine would be a GOLD mine. Figure the AVERAGE box of ammo is $8-10... between that and all the money that people are pumping into this thing, it's likes an ATM. I think a lot of disrepuatable people would be looking to knock over one of these things.

Now, in a gun store where it could be supervised (yet save the counter crew time, etc), it might be a good idea.

Assuming this machine is in an attended area, I think it's a great idea! Bear in mind that ammo will weighs much more than a bag of chips. Make sure the internal structures can handle it.

I believe you will someday be a millionaire. I love the idea, even though there is some fair criticism. If we were free it would be a hit.
