for a centerfire rifle round, a really popular one that is being made by a bunch of wildcatters , is a 14/221. shoots a 10 to 15 grain round at about 4000 fps. The reason the wildcatters/varminters like it so much, the outrageous fast and violence to its spin, causes a tiny entrance wound. It then completely blows apart inside the animal, and does not exit. So what you end up with , is a cartridge that can give you reliable hits out to 200 or so yards, but with no pelt damage. I think you can read about it here.

there is also a .10 Squirrel and a .12 Eichenberger Dart...but I think I might have the names backwards. :) lol

IIRC, the .10 Squirrel is a necked down .22 Long rifle case, the Dart is a .25 ACP case necked down.

I was thinking rifles when I read this post.........

Can anyone tell me something about the .14 Jones Express? There must be some knowlageable folks that consider the .17 Remington " Big Bore ". Let's hear more about the .14's...........Essex
