i've always wanted a 41 mag. i thought my luck had run out, but when i recently found out ruger made a special run of 41's i ran out to order one, in spite of it being a ruger. imagine my pleasure when i found out smith & wesson still had a couple models available (smith may/may not be the best, but i sure like 'em a ton better than ruger).

anyway, my choices are the 657, 357 pd, and a model 57 w/ a tapered barrel. as of now, i am leaning pretty strongly towards the 357 pd, but i have not yet seen a m 57 w/ the tapered barrel (apparently smith has discontinued this one, but there are still a few in the distributor pipelines).

gun is to be used for... dunno... cuz i want it, i guess. not for ccw - probably when it gets used it will be used most for hunting, but mostly i just want one.

any input on the which of the 57 series is better? any hope of a pic of any of the 3 - especially the 57?

Did someone say '57'

The only Model 57 that S&W ever made that had a tapered barrel is the 2005 Mountain Gun version.
It's still available in fact Davidson's has 17 in stock.

All of the other .41 Magnum revolvers made by S&W have had heavy barrels. Some of the more recent ones had a full underlug but most of them did not.

well, the tapered barrel model does look pretty nice - not at all like i thought it would look.

thanks for the help, fellas. i'm desperately in need of a good 41!

I like My Smith 58's

I carried a .41 mag Smith 58 and I enjoy it and have another new one too, I dont need adjustable sights to shoot accurately and The caliber is great,
