This past weekend I fired one of these at our local range and loved it.
I called my local dealer whom I trust about securing one of these pistols.
In our conversation, he mentioned that at the SHOT show a few yrs ago, he had a S&W rep say that the 10 rnd cyc models accuracy was not as good at the 6 rnd cyc.
Can anyone comment on this before I drop a bundle on this pistol.
He has has what I want in a used verson but can get me a new in the box if I desire.

Thanks, Jerry

I've not heard this before, but I do recall that the 10-shots had a reputation for developing timing issues. Now that I think of it, I had to send my 10-shot back for a timing-related issue. Really wasn't even much of a problem, but S&W offered to fix it on their dime. Almost forgot about that. Even so, I'm not convinced the reputation is deserved or that my experience ought to be taken as evidence for such a problem.

Nonetheless, as far as accuracy, my 4" 10-shot is just fine.:

Good luck on your purchase. We'll be waiting for the range report! :D

I've not heard about any issues with these. Everyone that posts about theirs seems to love them. I do believe that the 10 shots initially had aluminum cylinders, then switched over to stainless steel. Maybe the switch was in reaction to timing problems? I have read posts with guys shooting several thousand rounds a month out of theirs with no problems.

My 617 6-inch 10-shot is an exceptionally accurate revolver. I shoot it as well or better than my Model 41.

What's more, it's really a perfect complement to my 686+ 6-inch.

Sounds like the kind of crap a sales rep will say to push the product he has because he can't supply the product you want. Odds are good that the 10-shots were still only trickling out of the factory and the 6-shooters were plentiful.

"they are very accuracy "

How many miles do you speak English..?

I ordered a 6" 617 S&W back in the middle of Sept. and still waiting.
I called S&W customer service last week and was told they have a 52 gun order but are only producing 4 guns daily and I should get mine in about 2 weeks.

Looks like Santa is going to be late at my house this year.........Again.

Walter.

I can tell you from first hand experience, the 10 shot is every much as accurate as the 6 shot. The 10 shot did have to go back to the factory for timing issues and this was a newly purchased ten shot. S&W had to replace the cylinder and the hand, for my troubles S&W did a trigger job and smoothed up the trigger because you could definitely tell there was a very bad hang in the trigger.

Saying the 10 shot is just as accurate is a big statement for me considering the 10 shot is only a 4inch barrel with a lock and my six shot is a 8inch barrel pre lock. Here is a review I did on my long barrel 22's since they had to be 6 inches or longer I did not include the 4inch 10 shot in this review.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the input. Just wanted to confirm all that I have heard about it before I buy. Thanks again and have a super Christmas and equally as good New Years,
Jerry

:what::banghead::cuss:

I know the feeling, I ordered a 4'' a couple of weeks ago and am still waiting to.

Bought a 10-shot 4" from Bud's a few months ago and it's one of my favorite all time guns. Probably got 5000+ rds through it. Spend a few hours this weekend going over it in fine detail and removing all of the lead fouling. I can honestly say that I spent more time cleaning this gun than any other gun. If you shoot lots, you'll need to spend the time to keep it clean. I took the cylinder apart and cleaned underneath the extractor and just about everywhere else. Looks brand new today. Think I need to go shoot it...

BULLSI, Howdy Neighbor, I see your from the "Water Wonderland" State also. I'm on the east coast near Lk. St. Clair. The MSL has be good to me lately with the funds to purchase 2 S&W 41's, a 617 4" and a 617 6" that is on order. This is going to be the best Christmas ever for me. Good thing I paid for the wife to be (her idea) neutered. LOL..Society will be safe for men. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL ON THE SITE.
