I may have an opportunity to trade a 6906 for a 910. I know nothing about the 910, but love my 6906. The only thing I find not to love is the DAO on the first shot after drawing / no hammer spur.

Is a 910 comparable in accuracy and reliability to the 6906?

Yes, and don't do it. You will wish you kept the 6906. You WILL regret getting rid of it. Mark my words.

I have both. 910 is a single stack. 6906 is a double. Basically the same size. I have over 25 handguns. These are at the top of the list. Just buy the 6906.

Thanks. I've already got the 6906, just trying to decide whether to swap it for a 910. I'm leaning towards keeping the 6906.

You sure about that? I don't one one but I have shot a few 3rd gen Smith's and I'm almost positive that the 910 is a double stack gun that just came with mag capacity limited to 10 rounds (which itself is slightly higher than most single stacks which are usually 7-9 rounds). You could still use regular 15-round high caps like from the 915 or 5906 in the 910's though.

S&W 910 is a "Value Line" 3rd gen 9mm S&W. It's most similar to a S&W 5904 with addition of a slightly more chunky appearance (less machining=more "value"!) and some plastic parts (e.g. guide rod, sights and mag release). The model 910 replaced the model 915 when the old federal AWB started in 1994. The model 915 came with a full capacity 15 round mag, whereas the 910 came with 10 round mags.

OP as far as a trade, I like my S&W 910, but I love my S&W 6904 a LOT more. I say keep your 6906 and BUY a 910, because one can never have enough 3rd gen S&W in a collection.

Having owned both a 457 and a 4516, I would encourage you keep the 6906 and purchase the 910 separately, if possible. All 3rd Gen S&W pistols are good and I would not be turned off by the "Value Line" variants.

Yeah, that isn't a trade I would make. I would keep the 6906 and hold out until you can get a 5906 and a 3913 to round out the collection. I have both of those and they are fantastic.

NOOOOOOOO! Don't trade a 6906 for a 910!

910's are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to 3rd gen Smiths. Plastic guide rod, plastic sights, no ambi-decocker/safety, and most of all - no rail along the entire frame's length and no locking barrel lug. The two latter omissions make the 910 quite a bit less accurate than other 3rd gen Smiths. The 910 also has an alloy frame mated.

The 6906 is probably one of the best compact hi-cap 9's out there. Hold on to it. I speak from experience. I have 20-something 3rd gen Smiths and not a single one of them is a 910.

I'm definitely holding on to the 6906. It's not possible for me to outright buy the 910, but I don't need it anyway.

I appreciate the replies!

Hey the 910 has a **** load of plastic parts compared to the 5906 and 6906 series its basically the abandoned stepchild of the 3rd gen series of pistols

Keep your 6906 and purchase the 910 separately its a good gun but a 5906 or 915 will run laps around a 910 because they have better accuracy and metal parts that holdup longer compared to the 910 which has plastic parts

No way

The 910 is also a 3rd gen Smith, like the 6906. However, the 910 was one of the "economy" models of the run. It has less machining and more plastic parts. Don't do it. Its a cheaper pistol.

Your reason for considering the trade is that the 910 has a hammer spur and would allow you to cock the hammer for the first shot?

LEARN TO MASTER THE DA PULL! It isn't that hard.

Its a far better solution to your "problem"

Or call S&W and see about replacing the hammer with a spurred one.

I might make the trade if the 6906 is DAO (?). The 910 will give you DA/SA, and the gun will be easier to shoot in SA mode.

I wouldn't trade a 6906 for a 910. I do prefer the hammer spur on the 910, but the 6906 is a better built gun. I have found both guns to be very reliable.
