I've made up my mind that I need (want) another 9mm. Narrowed it down to 4specific full sized hi-cap models that I feel all fit the needs I'll have for this gun. Accuracy, quality and reliability are my benchmarks. Don't care about concealment - I have other CCW's.

Here are the candidates:

- Beretta 92F
- Sig P226
- CZ 75B
- Smith & Wesson 910

Would appreciate any/all input from those of you who've used these guns before. I have only shot the 92F (the M9 variety) and the P226.

all the four pistols you mentioned are reliable. try to rent the CZ 75 and S&W 910 at your local range if it's available.

make your decision base on what you feel most comfortable with. :)

I got all of them, except the CZ, and the 915 instead of the 910 (the 15rd one) and USP9 and G17.

I think you should buy all of them and keep the one you like best.

Toss up between the Sig and the Beretta. Two of the best 9mm's ever made IMHO. Shoot both and then decide. For the record....the best 9mm's in no particular order are: Beretta 92, Sig P226, Browning HP and the Glock 17. You can argue with me but it won't matter. : )

It is really a toss up between them all. They are all reliable well made guns. If I had to list them in order of what I would buy it would be the 226, 92F, CZ-75, then the 910. I am partial to the 226, but I also really like the 92F and the CZ. I have never cared much for my friend's 910, just seemed kind of vanilla to me.

Personally, I don't care much for CZ. Not sure why, they just never vibed with me. They seem like good guns, nice trigger... just a vibe.

The S&W can be nice, but in my experience, people with a S&W auto either love them or hate them. There really is no middle ground. Too many times have I run across a person wanting to sell a S&W because it was a regrettable purchase. It's a very loyalty-dependant brand, IMHO.

Berettas are nice, but I've never been too fond of the looooooong trigger. If this is going to be a strictly range gun, get the Beretta. They're exceptionally accurate, have a wide sight radius, very comfortable to shoot in single action, and magazines are plentifully inexpensive.

Sigs are my personal favorite. Excellent trigger pull, easy to change to a shorter trigger if you have small hands, abundant supply of magazines for purchase (stick to factory or mecgar, all else is junk), and the natural point of aim is like no other.

I like HK compacts, too, but it's not on your list, and if it was I would say something regarding customer service horror stories. I hear the horror stories about Sig, too, but they're more easily repairable with the flood of spare parts on the market. Brownells in specific. In fact, the only people I really hear say bad things about Sig are dedicated 1911 guys... make your own assumption as to why.

If you decide to go with the Sig, you might try to find a slightly-used or new condition P228. It's the compact version of the P226, still has high capacity, and is a little more balanced. This due to a 1/2 inch of slide difference between the P226 and P228.

Why did you exclude the Browning HP from your list?

Just out of curiousity.

Already have one :) (Well, a FN version anyway) Just want another "classic" full sized 9.

CZ-75 or Browning Hi Power. If you hvae to have a Sig, I prefer the P228 over the P226. Just balances and carries better.

They are all great guns, but they are more different from one another in practice than you might think. The only way to tell which is right for you is to rent an example of each and throw as much lead down range as possible.

One word of warning: a worn-out range hag might not give you the best sense of what a new, solid gun will shoot like. I rented a slagged-out Beretta 92 before buying my CZ and thought it was garbage. Then I shot a well-maintained example of the same gun and thought it was great. I'm still glad I bought the CZ, if for no other reason than it makes a great .22 with the Kadet kit mounted.

Another gun worth considering is a Ruger P89.

+1 on the Ruger P89. A remarkable value and a fantastic shooter!

Of the pistols you've listed, it's hard to devide in a vaccum. If price and value are a driver, then I'd go with them in the following order:
- CZ 75
- Beretta 92FS
- Sig P226

They are all good guns, but I don't think my Sig is $200+ nicer than my Beretta.

My cz75 is just for fun. I shoot it, my daughter shoots it, makes holes in paper just fine. Doesn't hurt that it's the most widely used service pistol. The
trigger has smoothed out well over time, extra mags are cheap. I recently bought the .22 conversion kit. Now you're talkin cheep fun. But I bought the cz for one major reason, it fit my hand well.

I have a 92FS, 226 and CZ85B. The only difference between the 75 and the 85 is that the 85 has ambidextrous controls.
All 3 have been 100% reliable so far. If I was forced to choose 1 it would be the CZ because of superior accuracy, smaller size and condition 1 capability.

this doesn't look right. are you on a stand off and have the kid as hostage and a shield for you?

LOL! I'd use my wife as a shield before the kid. Bigger coverage area. :)

Ok, I say 92, but that's just cause it's what I have and I haven't shot much else. I'm not big on the polymer lowers... Got my wife a Storm in 9mm and it's actually a rather nice firearm - not as big as the 92 but not a compact either. Still uses 17 rnd mags and points well.

Since you already have a BHP I would suggest the CZ75 or 85 because of the similarity in control layout.

Also they have a 22 caliber conversion for simple shooting practice.

Had a CZ75 before, sold it and regretting it.

Now maintain a BHP, G19 & G26
