Which 9mm? 92F, P226, CZ-75 or S&W 910

1) SIG P226
2) Beretta 92FS
3) CZ-75
4) S&W 910

I love the P226. It fits my hand well, it shoots very accurately for me, it balances well, and the pointability of it is great. To my amazement, the Beretta 92FS has a very similar grip to the P226 IMO. Many feel the Beretta is "big" for a 9mm... but its a service full size gun (which I feel it does fine in). The Beretta doesn't have as smooth of a trigger as the SIG's IMO, especially the REALLY long DA trigger pull. A simple swap to a D-spring will lighten up the DA pull considerably.

Of the ones I've tried, the P226 definitely has the smoothest pull. Only one I've not shot yet is the S&W 910.

The CZ75 is a great pistol, some say bang for the buck, but I think its up there with the SIG and Beretta. :)

My preference in 9mm is the P-35. I have owned a couple of CZ-75's and of the pistols on your list the CZ would be my preference. I owned a 92FS which I detested; A 226 & 228 which are quality auto's, However, after shooting a 1911 for so many years I couldn"t warm up to the a.) double action first shot, b.) the "excessive" trigger movement required to cycle the disconnect in single action & c.) the heigth of bore in relation to the web of my hand (which accentuated "muzzle hop"/made the pistol feel "blocky" or top heavy).

"If possible, handle them all and rent those you haven't shot before. One will be a clear winner."

This is very, very true. You'll know. Wrap your hand around each one, maybe even find a place that will let you rent them, and at the end of the day, one will be the winner. You'll be thinking about how nice the grip felt, how accurate you were with it (if you shoot them), and how you want to go back and "see" it again. I just bought myself a Beretta 92FS INOX, and I absolutely love it. Best of luck to you.

Thanks!

Thank you all for the great input!!

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a good range anywhere near where I can rent/test the various options. We have an informal range at our hunting cabin out in the boonies though. I've decided to buy 2 guns, the CZ75-SP01 and the P226. Going to shoot both a good bit then probably end up selling the one I like least. If I'm not entirely 100% ok with the one I keep, I may then buy another and do the same. Sure, I'm going to take a bit of a hit in what I can sell the other gun for used, but it looks like these hold their value well so it shouldn't be all that much.

Here's what I'm getting . . .

Eliminated the Beretta because your posts reminded me of how much I disliked the long trigger of the M9 I shot so much years ago. Also, the S&W just doesn't seem in the same league with the others. I love their revolvers, but something about their autos just doesn't do it for me.

If you'll be shooting it a lot - CZ75. Steel frames last longer than alloy (my opinion).

Shipwreck, to remain calm, the picture is meant to suggest sweeping him up off the floor out of the way, while trying to defend him, back against the wall. I would never ever use my son to sheild myself, and find such a remark offensive.
Good day, sir.

Well you certainly made two great choices. I have the CZ 85 Combat and love it and will have a 226 as soon as I can thin the herd up here. Almost willing to bet you $5.00 Cdn you end up keeping them both cuzz you are never going to be able to decide which one is better!

Take Care
