I was very disappointed today to find that my SW 2206 .22 would not fire with the 12 round factory mags I bought from Smith. I happened to have one 10 round mag with me and this one worked. I recently replaced a grip screw on this pistol and I wonder whether that screw is stopping the mag from turning off the mag safety. Anyway, that is my guess: that a mag screw or too tight grips is interfering with the mechanism whereby inserting a mag turns off the mag safety. Any comments?

Thanks,

To answer my own question:

(I did not have a screwdriver with me at the range today.)

This 2206 came to me with aftermarket hardwood grips. It appears that one hole for a grip screw (the one nearest the mag safety mechanism) is oversized and that the screw going to it is slightly larger than the standard grip screws. Tightening this screw beyond a certain point prevents the 12 round mags from pushing up on and releasing the mag safety. For reasons unknown to me, this tightening does not affect the functioning of the 10 round mag the same way.
