Smith and Wesson CSX

Have you handled one yet? Have a pretty nice feel. Considered as a replacement for my striker-fired Walther PPS. Bought a Springfield XDE instead. Wanted a da/sa. Initial indicators are that might not be suitable option.

I've been seeing articles about this being "trendsetting" or "groundbreaking," etc. Honest question, though: Apart from being double-stack, how is this pistol different from a Kimber Micro 9 or a SIG P938? They are all metal-framed, hammer-fired, single-action semi-auto micro pistols chambered in 9mm.

It looks like it's just a DA/SA Shield. I haven't been to a gun store for a long time.
I might have to check that out.
the CSX is SA only. That kept me from getting one.
Someone in an XD forum suggested the H&K P30sk as a reasonable option (similar size, little heavier, more magazine options). I wished I had considered that before buying the XDe

Got a chance to handle one and the trigger was not very impressive and I’d agree with the above poster that a Sig 938 or similar would be better for me. If it’s gonna be cocked and locked SAO, it’s gotta have a sweet trigger in my book.

Another one to look at is the HK P2000sk, smaller than the P30sk by a bit.

I have both a P30sk and an XD-e and I like the H&K better. Both shoot fine, just kind of like a Ford vs Chevy preference.

I got to look at the CSX at the Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA, in Feb. It feels good and a nice size but it did not impress me enough to get me to think about replacing something I already have.

I have the csx and a 938, the trigger is definitely better on the sig. Main advantage to the csx is the 10 & 12 round mag capacity. I've only put a box thru the s&w so far, mostly shooting at metal gongs to make sure it functions ok.

I have a CSX and out of the box the trigger felt like a stock Browning P35 trigger...heavy and gritty. I disassembled the gun and checked the sear and hammer. The sear looked pretty good but I stoned it anyway and the hammer hooks were very rough but the engagement was NOT too long so no need to cut back the hammer hooks at all. the engagement surface on the hammer was very rough and I carefully stoned it. This took all the grit out and breaks very chrisp now but it is still heavy...On a full sized all steel gun it would be perfectly fine but on a flyweight compact it is still too heavy for my taste even though I did NOT measure the weight of pull. At this point I think a lighter mainspring would totally fix the trigger but until we find there the spring force/firing reliability lines cross I am going to leave mine alone. I did not buy it to shoot steel at 25 meters..I bought it to keep a thug from beating my braiins out at tire iron range...and that it will do just fine.

I was foolish enough to buy one when it was announced. Ran 400 rounds through it, never got comfortable with it, unlike my Ruger LCPII and Shield Plus. The trigger was indeed the worst feature, sloppy take-up, gritty, and false reset. Traded it in and bought another Springfield 9mm 1911. I have the two subcompacts mentioned and a Bersa .380, so the CSX would have replaced the LCPII .380 if I liked it.

I've got one. I like it a lot. Feels good in my hand. The stippling keeps it from slipping around like my Kimber Micro 9 did. The trigger on mine breaks clean at 4.5 pounds. Just a wall, then BANG. The false reset people talk about I haven't noticed, but then I don't worry about the reset. I don't shoot it any worse than I did the Kimber Micro 9 I mentioned above.

I think I'll keep it.
